Luxury Hotels in Mallorca and Bordeaux: A KJ Travel Advisor’s Summer Escape

Picture this, early summer in Europe warm breezes off the Balearic coast, vineyard sunsets in southwest France, and the satisfying clink of a wine glass after a day well spent. If you’re looking to pair cultural immersion with stunning stays, this itinerary delivers just that. KJ Travel advisor Lenni recently explored Mallorca and Bordeaux and came back with fresh hotel intel, trip notes, and plenty of takeaways for travelers craving a high-end but low-stress European escape.

Grand Hotel Son Net, Mallorca

A Boutique Luxury Hotel in Mallorca’s Tramuntana Mountains

Just 15 minutes outside Palma and nestled at the foot of the UNESCO-protected Serra de Tramuntana, Grand Hotel Son Net blends historical charm with quiet luxury. The restored 17th-century estate is surrounded by olive trees, vineyards, and breathtaking mountain views, perfect for couples or adult travelers looking for a top boutique hotel in Mallorca.

Lenni spent two nights here and described it as “absolutely stunning.” Her highlights included refined Mallorcan cuisine (don’t miss the beef tenderloin with foie gras and truffle), spacious suites, and the chance to hike or bike right from the property.

KJT Travel Tip: Palma’s city center is gorgeous but tricky for driving. Lenni recommends parking just outside the city and walking in for a more relaxing experience.

This is a standout property for those planning a romantic or wellness-focused European summer escape. Perfect for: Couples, honeymooners, and wellness seekers.

Belmond La Residencia, Deia

Family-Friendly Charm in Mallorca’s Most Artistic Village

Set in the artistic mountain village of Deia, Belmond La Residencia is ideal for families or travelers drawn to Mallorca’s creative soul. Stone buildings, curated art, and lush gardens make it one of the most iconic luxury hotels in Mallorca.

During her visit, Lenni dined at Tramuntana Grill and noted the property’s family appeal and artistic charm, with a slightly more touristy vibe.

KJT Travel tip: Even if you’re not staying overnight, make time for a lunch stop. The mountain views and Mediterranean cuisine are worth it.

Perfect for: Families, creatives, and cultural travelers.

Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa

Sea Views and Family-Friendly Luxury

Perched above the cliffs of Port Soller, this five-star resort offers sweeping views of the Mediterranean and the Tramuntana range. With its lush gardens, infinity pools, and indulgent wellness spa, Jumeirah Mallorca is a sanctuary by the sea.

Lenni stayed here for two nights and recommended it for both couples and families. While the hotel will undergo a refresh in 2027, the experience remains exceptional.

KJ Travel tip: Book a boat excursion for a truly unforgettable coastal adventure.

Bonus Tip: Don’t miss sunset cocktails at the Sunset Lounge, this is Mallorca luxury travel at its finest.

Perfect for: Families, romantic escapes, and wellness travelers.

Les Sources de Caudalie, Bordeaux

Vineyard & Wine Tasting in Southwest France

Just 20 minutes from Bordeaux city center, Les Sources de Caudalie is one of France’s most iconic wine country retreats. Surrounded by the Grand Cru vineyards of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, this luxury hotel in Bordeaux blends rustic charm  with serious wellness appeal.

Lenni enjoyed the serene setting, on-site wine tasting, and charming rooms each inspired by the Aquitaine region. Dining at La Table du Lavoir was a highlight. Booking a signature massage unlocks access to the full thermal circuit.

KJT Travel tip: Book a suite for added comfort and views of the vineyards. For wine lovers, this is your ideal European summer itinerary base.

Perfect for: Wine lovers, couples, and spa seekers.

Bordeaux City Notes

Lenni also explored Bordeaux itself, calling it a “mini Paris”, café culture, 18th-century charm, and walkable streets without the big-city hustle. It’s a smart add-on for couples or friends looking to wrap a wine-focused getaway with a little urban flair.

Ready to Plan Your Own Luxury Escape?

Whether you’re craving boutique vineyards, sea-facing suites, or cultural immersion, these luxury hotels in Mallorca and Bordeaux offer the perfect balance of comfort and discovery. Lenni’s itinerary shows how a well-paced European summer escape can deliver diverse experiences without sacrificing ease or elegance.

Mandarina, Your Way: Two Luxury Resorts in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico

Tucked between the jungle and the Pacific, the Mandarina development in Riviera Nayarit is home to two of Mexico’s most luxurious coastal resorts: Rosewood Mandarina and One&Only Mandarina. Though they share a lush, beachfront jungle setting just north of Punta Mita, each offers a distinct style of luxury, one soulful and nature-immersive, the other sleek and secluded with celebrity appeal.

This side-by-side comparison is your insider guide to choosing the best Mandarina luxury resort for your next Mexico getaway.

First things first. How to get there
Both resorts are easily accessible.

  • Nearest Airport: Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR) in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco  the closest international hub for both resorts.

  • Drive Time: 45–60 minutes via a newly upgraded coastal highway with ocean views and lush jungle backdrops

VIP Transfers: Both resorts offer private luxury SUV service; One&Only Mandarina adds the option for helicopter arrivals—just 15 minutes from airport to treetop

Rosewood Mandarina

Set on 565 acres, Rosewood Mandarina is built around three ecosystems: beachfront, jungle flatlands, and cliffside, each forming its own intimate enclave of suites and villas. The accommodations blend Mexican craftsmanship and modern comfort, with native materials, private plunge pools, and open-air designs that bring the outdoors in.

On her recent stay, Kate experienced a beachfront suite with its own plunge pool falling asleep to the sound of crashing waves and waking to views of the ocean right outside her door.

With 134 suites and villas, highlights include the Canalan Beachfront Villa and Cora Mountaintop Villa, both designed for families or small groups looking for maximum space and privacy.

Getting around is part of the fun walk, bike, or take a golf cart through the resort’s winding jungle paths.

Dining at Rosewood Mandarina

  • La Cocina: All-day Mexican–Spanish dining in an open-air gallery setting

  • Buena Onda: Casual beachfront spot for grilled seafood, jamón ibérico, and wood-fired flatbreads

  • Coming Fall 2025: Toppu, a Nikkei fusion restaurant, and Barra Peñasco, a cliffside cocktail lounge perfect for sunset

Wellness & Adventure

The Asaya Spa, nestled beneath a 500-year-old fig tree, offers treatments infused with eucalyptus, lemongrass, and local herbs. Hydrotherapy circuits, yoga with ocean views, and hikes to the ancient Abuela tree are all part of the restorative experience.

Families are well cared for through the Kids for All Seasons program, offering nature-based play, Mexican cooking classes, and art activities.

Outdoor activities include:

  • Ziplining through the jungle (Kate’s kids had a great time doing this!)

  • Horseback riding from the equestrian center

  • Surfing, hiking, paddleboarding

  • Pickleball, tennis, and archery

  • Access to the Mandarina Polo & Equestrian Club

Signature touches

  • Cliffside suites with lap pools and panoramic jungle or ocean views

  • Personalized wellness programs at Asaya Spa

  • Sustainability focus: no single-use plastics, support for biodiversity

  • Private airport transfers and Fine Hotels & Resorts program benefits

One and Only Mandarina

If Rosewood is soulfully grounded, One&Only Mandarina is visually striking. Designed by Rick Joy, this architectural gem is set into the jungle cliffs with 105 standalone villas and treetop suites, each offering private plunge pools, outdoor showers, and stunning rainforest or ocean views.

For the ultimate splurge, Signature Villas span up to 24,000 sq. ft. and include infinity pools, media rooms, private chefs, and butler service. Even entry-level villas offer blackout shades, smart lighting, and total privacy.

World-Class Dining at One&Only Mandarina

  • Carao by Enrique Olvera (of Pujol): Seafood-forward tasting menu with cliffside views

  • Alma by Olivier Deboise: Farm-to-table Mediterranean-Pan-American cuisine

  • Allora: Elevated Italian classics

  • Jetty Beach Club: Laid-back oysters, catch of the day, and cocktails by the sea

Spa & Activities

The One&Only Spa partners with Tata Harper to offer jungle-integrated treatments, temazcal rituals, cold plunges, and steam baths. Add a private yoga session or guided hike to the Abuela tree for a deeper connection to place.

Families will love the 42,000 sq. ft. KidsOnly jungle playground—complete with butterfly gardens, obstacle courses, and nature-led programming far beyond the average “kids club.”

Additional recreation includes:

  • Mountain biking, snorkeling, diving, kayaking

  • Polo matches, horseback riding

  • Tennis, beach volleyball, and a 10-hole jungle golf course

Signature touches

  • Fully detached villas and treehouses with unrivaled seclusion

  • Harmonious integration of design and nature

Chasing Cooler Days: Our Picks for Last-Minute Luxury Summer Escapes to Beat the Heat

There’s nothing quite like that first wave of real summer heat, the kind that makes you long for shade, sea breezes, or cool mountain mornings. If you're ready to swap that heat for fresh air and a slower pace, this is your list. These cool(er) weather luxury destinations are close enough for a spontaneous summer getaway, but far enough to feel like a full reset. These are the escapes our travel advisors are recommending when five-star comfort and cooler temps are calling.

COLORADO & UTAH

Four Seasons Resort Vail

If you’re craving crisp mountain air and alpine elegance, Four Seasons Vail delivers. Located in the heart of Vail Village, this sleek mountain retreat makes summer feel like a breath of fresh air. Expect spacious rooms with panoramic views of the Rockies, cozy mornings on the balcony, and a heated outdoor pool for peak relaxation. Active days here mean fly-fishing, hiking, and biking through aspen groves; slow ones include spa treatments and locally sourced dishes that celebrate Colorado’s wild beauty. This is one of our favorite cool-weather escapes when everywhere else is overheating.

The St. Regis Deer Valley, Park City

In Utah’s Deer Crest community, The St. Regis Deer Valley blends mountain serenity with five-star indulgence. Ride a private funicular to the resort and take in sweeping Wasatch Range views, plush rooms with marble details, and expansive private terraces. Unwind in the infinity pool, sip wine from the 14,000-bottle cellar, and book a custom treatment at the Remède Spa. For an ultra-refined summer escape in Park City, this is it.

MONTANA & WYOMING

Montage Big Sky

Located in Montana’s Spanish Peaks, just 45 minutes from Yellowstone, Montage Big Sky is a luxury mountain resort that offers year-round adventure and five-star comfort. During the summer months, swap ski boots for hiking boots, saddle up for horseback rides, or cast a fly rod in the river below. Inside, you’ll find rustic-luxe design, five restaurants (including Cortina and the cozy Alpenglow lounge), and an 11,000-square-foot Spa Montage. Each suite or residence is outfitted with warm wood, stone textures, and serene mountain views, making this one of Montana’s best cool-weather retreats.

Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole

For travelers craving wild landscapes without compromising on service, Four Seasons Jackson Hole offers front-row views of Grand Teton National Park and direct access to outdoor adventures. Located in Teton Village, this alpine resort features ski-in/ski-out access in winter, and in summer, it’s all about fly-fishing, wildlife spotting, and soaking in the stars. End your day with fireside cocktails, elevated dining, or a massage at the tranquil spa. This is the definition of elevated adventure and a true luxury escape in Wyoming.

California

Carmel Valley Ranch

Tucked into 500 acres of wine country in Carmel, California, this all-suite resort is where luxury meets nature. Enjoy morning hikes through oak-covered trails, a round on the Pete Dye golf course, or a treatment at Spa Aiyana. The resort caters to families with kid-friendly programming (think animal encounters and nightly s’mores) while offering couples the kind of quiet luxury that makes Carmel one of California’s top cool-weather getaways. Dining is a highlight especially at Valley Kitchen, where ingredients come straight from the onsite garden.

Montage Laguna Beach

Perched on a bluff above the Pacific, Montage Laguna Beach offers panoramic views, Craftsman-style rooms, and direct access to Treasure Island Beach. Book a couples’ massage at Spa Montage or unwind at the Mosaic Bar and Grille with fresh seafood and a view. With 258 guest rooms and bungalows, all featuring private balconies or patios, this is Southern California at its most luxurious and a perfect summer escape when the heat is rising inland.

Rosewood Miramar Beach, Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara brings the best of the American Riviera, beaches, wine country, and effortless elegance and nowhere captures that better than Rosewood Miramar Beach. Oceanfront suites open directly onto the sand, cabanas line the pool, and spa treatments come with a sea view. This is beach luxury at its most refined.

The Resort at Pelican Hill, Newport Coast

Looking for an Italian-style getaway without leaving California? Pelican Hill overlooks 500+ acres of oceanfront cliffs and brings European elegance to the California coast. Expect private villas with soaking tubs and limestone fireplaces, two Tom Fazio-designed golf courses, and one of the largest circular pools in the world. With a Roman-inspired spa and complimentary beach service to Crystal Cove, this is a five-star resort that checks every box for a relaxing, warm-but-breezy summer retreat.

The Carolinas

For a dose of Southern charm with a breeze, head to the Carolinas. In Charleston, check into The Dewberry for mid-century glamour and rooftop cocktails, or escape the city to The Dunlin, Auberge Resorts Collection, where lowcountry calm and coastal elegance meet. Looking for mountain air? Old Edwards Inn in Highlands, NC and Hotel Domestique near the Blue Ridge Mountains offer upscale comfort and easy access to cool-weather hikes, waterfalls, and wine tastings. Think You’ve Been to Every Luxury Mexico Beach Resort? Think Again.

Opened in late 2022 and set within a 3,000-acre private nature reserve, Four Seasons Tamarindo is intentionally remote. It’s about a 50-minute drive from Manzanillo Airport, but private air access to the resort’s on-property landing strip is available and seamless. Kate visited recently with her family and came back with great insights and even more amazing pictures.

A Remote, Refined Escape on Mexico’s Pacific Coast

The property is spread out; guests use golf carts to move between restaurants, pools, and suites. Accommodations are divided into cliffside and beachfront categories, depending on your preferred view and vibe. There are 157 rooms, including oversized private plunge pool suites (big enough to swim laps in!) and beachfront options just steps from the sand. Multi-bedroom villas four- and six-bedroom are perfect for families or groups.

What to Do at Four Seasons Tamarindo

Tamarindo offers more than just a pretty view, one of Kate's favorite moments, the stargazing. It's spectacular thanks to the resort’s secluded location. You’ve got access to 26 miles of nature trails, a David Fleming-designed 18-hole golf course with ocean views, and a full watersports program: kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, and exceptional deep-sea fishing, which is especially good in this part of Mexico.

The spa is a standout, with treatments inspired by local traditions and settings that open to the surrounding jungle. There’s also a temazcal for guests looking for a more immersive wellness experience.

Culinary Craft and Cultural Connection

One of Tamarindo’s most compelling features is its sense of place. Great experiences include cooking classes, a foraging tour, and visits to the on-site Rancho Ortega farm. The pastry chef trained at Rosetta in Mexico City, and that level of craft shows across the resort’s three dining venues.

Kate and her family especially loved Coyul, led by celebrated chef Elena Reygadas. Another favorite: Sal, the open-air seafood spot perched above Majahua Beach perfect for sunset dinners.

There’s also a Kids for All Seasons program with engaging, locally inspired activities, making this a great pick for luxury family travel.

Pair With a Cultural Stop in Mexico City

Tamarindo pairs beautifully with a few nights in Mexico City, a favorite combo for travelers who want the best of both worlds. Spend your mornings exploring Chapultepec Castle or Frida Kahlo’s house before heading west for sunsets and salt air. Kate recommends this itinerary to clients who want to balance urban energy with nature-driven calm.

Best Time to Visit Tamarindo

Peak season runs November through May, but Tamarindo stays warm and lush all year round. Whale-watching season peaks December to March, and summer offers lower rates with fewer crowds.

Kate visited in early spring and caught the tail end of whale season, an unforgettable moment for her crew during an afternoon sail.

12,000 Acres of Peace and Play: What Makes Primland a Dream Summer Escape

There’s something about mountain air, cooler, quieter, and instantly calming. KJT Travel Advisor Chelsea experienced it firsthand on her recent visit to Primland. If you're ready to unplug, reset, and escape the noise, Primland Resort in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains might just be your next great luxury getaway. Set on 12,000 private acres, this Auberge Resorts Collection property blends rugged outdoor adventure with refined comfort. It’s part luxury lodge, part adult summer camp and fully worth the drive up the mountain.

Getting There Is Half the Experience

Primland Resort doesn’t just feel remote, it is remote. You'll arrive at either the North or South gate, depending on your route, and from there, it's a scenic 25-minute drive up the mountain. As Chelsea noted, the elevation drops the temperature by nearly 10 degrees, so don’t forget to pack layers (she wore a sweater nearly every morning during her visit Mid May).

The closest commercial airports are about 90 minutes away, making this the kind of Blue Ridge Mountains escape where renting a car or splurging on a helicopter transfer to the resort makes sense.

Where Rugged Meets Refined

Think of Primland as approachable luxury: five-star comfort with a rustic soul. The vibe is elevated lodge meets understated elegance, nothing too flashy, but undeniably beautiful. Chelsea thinks this is a perfect fit for couples or families who want luxury with a more laid-back feel.

Inside, rooms and suites mix native woods with sleek finishes and moody mountain views. Outside? You’ve got miles of wilderness to explore. Whether you're fly fishing in a private stream, riding through forest trails on horseback, testing your aim on the sporting clay course, or stargazing at the resort’s observatory, every activity is guided and elevated. You can go full throttle with RTV off-roading, tree-climbing, or aim with a bow and arrow. The golf course? very challenging (in the best way) which Chelsea thinks some of our clients will absolutely love.

Primland is also one of the rare Orvis double-endorsed lodges in the U.S., offering the uniquely thrilling experience of Driven Pheasant Shoots, something you won’t find just anywhere.

Prefer a slower pace? Start your morning with yoga, book an organic facial, or float in the heated indoor pool (an outdoor pool is on the way!). And don’t skip dinner: ingredients like local trout and heritage meats shine in dishes rooted in Appalachian flavor, served with panoramic sunset views.

Family-Forward, Not Kid-Centric

Primland Resort strikes a thoughtful balance, what Chelsea calls “adult-friendly, family-forward.” It’s ideal for families with school-aged kids ready for adventure: think hiking, fishing, and ropes courses through The Junior Mountaineers Kids Club (available in summer for ages six and up). While there’s no year-round childcare or babysitting, families who love to explore together will find plenty to do. It’s luxury with room to roam, designed for travelers of all ages who thrive outdoors, just with a little more independence.

Why Primland Belongs on Your Summer Travel List

Primland is luxury in its most grounded form, refined, immersive and deeply connected to place. It’s perfect for couples craving reconnection, families with older kids ready for adventure, or friends looking to unwind in nature without compromising comfort.

From misty Blue Ridge mornings to fly fishing in quiet streams and observatory stargazing, every detail is thoughtfully crafted. This is where high-end hospitality meets the soul of the Appalachian outdoors.

Ready to plan your Blue Ridge escape or a cooler weather escape this summer? Let us take care of the details so you can focus on fresh air, new memories, and that second glass of wine by the fire.

KJT advisor Melissa recently visited and called the service, design, and dining a standout, especially the Michelin-starred Auro, where select guests can dine right inside the chef’s kitchen. Add in bikes for exploring town, a scenic pool setup, and festive touches during the holidays, and for a touch of adventure, guests can explore the valley in style with the resort's luxury Dream Drive Experience or have the Concierge book a hot-air balloon ride.

Big Sur, California

Wild Coast, Wellness Vibes, and Waking Up to the Pacific
Along California’s craggy coast, Big Sur blends raw beauty with coastal charm. Stay at the iconic Post Ranch Inn, where treehouse-like suites open to ocean views, and days begin with guided hikes and end with wine by a wood-burning fire. If you have a full week, we love combining this hard-to-reach destination with another stop or two along the West Coast adding in golf, wineries, or beachside escapes.
