Luxury Spring Break Destination Ideas for 2026

Quick Take

Spring Break isn’t about following the crowd. It’s about traveling smart while the kids are out of school. In 2026, many of these destinations land in a shoulder-season sweet spot, which can mean fewer crowds, better hotel availability, and stronger value for a luxury family vacation. And it’s not just “five days off.” It’s the perfect window to use the full week and turn it into a nine-day Europe trip that can be far more affordable than peak summer. From Hawaiian beach days to Morocco’s desert escapes and Africa's wildlife paired with five-star hospitality, these ideas are built to help families knock out bucket-list destinations and make the most of their Spring Break.

Hawaii: Big Island Volcanic Adventure Meets Five-Star Ease

Best For: Multi-generational families seeking culture + adventure + luxury, and empty nesters wanting wellness and pristine beaches
Travel Window: Mid-March through early April (Spring Break 2026—peak season, book well in advance)

Hawaii delivers bucket-list natural wonders without international complications. The Big Island anchors this perfectly: active volcanoes, black-sand beaches, and resort luxury all within easy reach. Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection just completed renovations with Hawaii's first Goop store and an adults-only infinity pool. Four Seasons Resort Hualalai wrapped its renovations with redesigned villas and pristine beachfront. For Maui lovers, Grand Wailea unveiled Kilolani Spa (Hawaii's largest at 50,000 square feet) and Maui's first Nobu. Between resort time, explore Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, snorkel with manta rays, or book private cultural experiences with native Hawaiian practitioners.

The Strategic Advantage: Daytime temperatures hover in the high 70s to low 80s°F with warm ocean temps, plus it's the final month to catch humpback whales migrating through Hawaiian waters. We know which resort areas offer the best multi-gen programming, when to visit lesser-known beaches without crowds, and how to secure private experiences.

Guanacaste, Costa Rica: Adventure Meets Five-Star Refinement

Best For: Active families who want adventure without compromising luxury
Travel Window: December through April (dry season—peak tourist period, premium pricing, book well in advance)

The Guanacaste region shines during Costa Rica's dry season from December through April, when the country sees peak tourism, hot, sunny weather ideal for active itineraries. Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve opened in February 2025, joining the longstanding Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo. Just up the coast, Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique opened April 22, 2025 on Playa Penca, adding more luxury resorts in the Guanacaste region. Spring 2026 represents the ideal window after both properties' inaugural seasons.

This is the Papagayo standard: mornings spent zip-lining, hiking, and getting out on the water, then an easy pivot into wellness and dining. Nekajui's Nimbu Spa spans 27,000 square feet with Latin America's largest hydrotherapy pool. Waldorf Astoria adds cliffside sophistication with six dining concepts.

The Strategic Advantage: Costa Rica's dry season from December through April is perfect for active families who want guaranteed conditions. Waldorf Astoria sits just 17 miles from Liberia International Airport (LIR), while Four Seasons and Nekajui are roughly 40 minutes away. We know which properties offer the best value for families, when to book for optimal rates, and how to secure adventure excursions during high season.

Marbella, Spain: Sunshine, minus the crowds

Best For: Families seeking easy beach days and real infrastructure (kids clubs, sports) or couples wanting great dining, wellness, and polished people-watching
Travel Window: Mid-March through early April (Spring Break 2026-shoulder season, pleasant weather, fewer crowds than summer)

Marbella, Spain, is a smart Spring Break escape: sunny days, light-jacket evenings, and none of August’s peak-season intensity, perfect for families planning luxury stays in Marbella. Mild temperatures and refreshing Mediterranean water suit travelers who want beach proximity without peak-summer heat. Marbella’s seafront Paseo Marítimo sets the rhythm luxury travelers love: morning coffee, coastal bike rides, long lunches, then back to the hotel before dinner, while linking the Old Town to Puerto Banús and its marina scene. For a classic family-friendly luxury hotel base, Marbella Club Hotel delivers garden-filled glamour, one of Europe’s best kids clubs, and standout thalasso wellness. For livelier resort energy (especially for teens + dining), Puente Romano Beach Resort brings La Casita Kids Club, 20+ restaurants, and the Six Senses Spa.

The Strategic Advantage: A quick hop via Málaga (easy 40-minute transfers, minimal jet lag from U.S. East Coast), and genuine shoulder-season value. Spring brings pleasant weather with far fewer crowds than peak summer. We know which hotels offer the best kids programming for your family's ages, when to visit for optimal bloom-to-crowd ratio, and how to experience Marbella's sophistication without summer's intensity.

Rome + Tuscany, Italy: Big Highlights, Villa-Style Ease

Best For: families who want iconic sights without a frantic pace and who want food, wine, and beautiful hotels with a sense of place.
Travel Window: March–April (shoulder season, Rome is reliably open; Tuscany countryside requires careful property selection as many don't open until mid-March)

Rome + Tuscany is the Italy Spring Break pairing that works for almost everyone because it gives you two complementary experiences without complicated logistics, if you plan strategically (here is where your KJT advisor can make all things run smoothly). Start in Rome for the "wow" factor moments: private, skip-the-line touring that keeps kids engaged and parents sane, plus time built in for long lunches and gelato breaks (in our opinion the best kind of break). Then shift to Tuscany for the reset: countryside drives, winery lunches, and villa-style resorts where families can spread out and adults can lean into spa time and quiet. The key? We know exactly which Tuscan towns come alive in March and which properties open mid-month, because much of the countryside operates on seasonal closures and won't hit peak season until summer.

The Strategic Advantage: Two destinations that balance each other perfectly. Rome delivers the bucket-list history moments, Tuscany delivers the downtime, but only when you've vetted timing and availability. Let's not forget you'll now be able to fly directly to Italy from Houston.

Paris & London: European Classics

Best For: Multi-generational families seeking iconic culture + world-class museums, Michelin-starred dining and luxury shopping
Travel Window: Mid-March through early April (Shoulder season, pleasant weather, fewer crowds than summer)

Paris and London deliver Europe's iconic duo, just a two-hour Eurostar connecting two capitals at their springtime best. Start with three nights in Paris when the city blooms: cherry blossoms peak late March to mid-April in Jardin des Tuileries and Parc de Sceaux and Notre-Dame Cathedral welcomes visitors after its 2024 reopening with enhanced accessibility. Four Seasons Hotel George V anchors luxury travelers with five Michelin stars across three restaurants (the most of any European hotel), while Hôtel Ritz Paris delivers Belle Époque grandeur with its exclusive Chanel Spa. Then shift to London for three nights of royal heritage: Buckingham Palace, world-class theater in the West End, and spring blooms in Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Claridge's remains Mayfair's Art Deco icon, The Chancery Rosewood made its debut last year in the former U.S. embassy, while The Connaught delivers impeccable butler service and two-Michelin-starred dining.

The Strategic Advantage: March and April represent shoulder season in both cities: pleasant weather with far fewer crowds than peak summer and very good value this time of year. The Eurostar from Paris Gare du Nord to London St Pancras takes just 2 hours 15 minutes, making this Europe's easiest luxury two-city pairing. We know which museums to visit, which private tours are a must and which authentic experiences will allow you to make the most of your time in these two iconic cities.

Morocco: Marrakech Glamour, With Desert Charm

Best For: Families who want a Spring Break that feels elevated (culture + pools + kids programs) and travelers who want design, dining, and wellness with a sense of place
Travel Window: March–April (peak tourist season—ideal weather, high demand, book well in advance)

Morocco is one of the smartest Spring Break plays when you want something that feels different. Start in Marrakech for high-style hotels, vibrant souks, manicured gardens, and private guided experiences that keep the day moving (and keep everyone happy, from grandparents to kids). Royal Mansour delivers 53 private riads that feel like your own hidden home in the city, each with rooftop terraces, plunge pools, and ultra-personal service via discreet underground tunnels. Four Seasons Resort Marrakech is the go-to for families who want space, multiple pools (including a dedicated family pool), and the complimentary Kids For All Seasons club for ages 4-12, complete with its own "kasbah," theater, and shallow pool.

The Strategic Advantage: It's a multi-gen win with two easy stops in one country. Marrakech delivers culture, shopping, and bucket-list moments. But here's what requires planning: March and April represent peak tourist season when temperatures are ideal and landscapes are in bloom. Hotels command premium rates, popular riads book months ahead, and advance reservations are essential. We know which properties deliver luxury without sacrificing authenticity, which Marrakech experiences avoid tourist traps, and how to time your movements for the best weather-to-crowd ratio, transforming a beautiful trip into an effortlessly luxurious experience.

South Africa: Safari & Cape Town, The Ultimate Luxury Pairing

Best For: Multi-generational families seeking Big Five safaris + cosmopolitan luxury, wildlife, and world-class dining
Travel Window: Mid-March through early April (Shoulder season for safari, summer peak for Cape Town)

South Africa delivers the continent's most accessible luxury safari experience paired with one of the world's most captivating cities. Start with three to four nights in Sabi Sands, the private reserve adjacent to Kruger National Park renowned for the planet's best leopard sightings and Big Five encounters. New luxury lodges opening in 2026 include Sabi Sabi's N'weti Camp (adults-only with private plunge pools) and Shisaka Camp on the rewilded Sandringham Reserve, joining established icons like Singita, Londolozi, and Lion Sands. March and April represent shoulder season for safari, vegetation is still lush and green from summer rains, temperatures are pleasant, and you'll experience excellent game viewing as wildlife becomes more visible with thinning bush.

Then shift to Cape Town for four nights of urban sophistication: Table Mountain, Cape Winelands day trips, world-class dining, and oceanfront luxury. Belmond Mount Nelson remains the city's grand dame with iconic afternoon tea and sprawling gardens, while One&Only Cape Town delivers modern waterfront elegance at the V&A Waterfront.

The Strategic Advantage: Spring Break timing works beautifully for this pairing. March-April is Cape Town's summer peak season, while it's shoulder season for safari (fewer crowds, lower rates than peak winter months May-September, still excellent game viewing). Direct flights from Houston to Johannesburg launched recently, making access easier than ever. We know which Sabi Sands lodges offer the best family programming versus romantic seclusion, and how to seamlessly coordinate private transfers between safari and city.

Christmas, But Make It Easy: A Luxury Resort Holiday (Zero Dishes Included)

Christmas at a luxury resort hits different. One minute it’s palm trees and warm air, the next it’s a lobby glowing with lights, holiday music in the background, and something sweet waiting when everyone comes back to the room. The day has a plan: spa time, a show, an adventure, a great dinner, and no one is stuck playing host.

That’s the real win: the whole family can be together in one place, with all the festive details handled, and nobody has to cook, clean, or pack half the house to make it feel like Christmas.

Quick Take

A luxury resort Christmas is the easiest way to host a multi-generational holiday without playing chef, event planner, and dishwasher. Resorts elevate the season with nightly programming, special dining, festive shows, family-friendly excursions, and really thoughtful touches like: a Christmas tree in the room, cookies from Santa on Christmas Eve, and a photographer to capture the one photo everyone actually likes. The best rooms, suites, and villas often book far in advance holiday planning should start early.

Why a Luxury Resort Christmas Works So Well for Families

A holiday trip usually comes with trade-offs: either the family hosts (and does the work) or travels (and loses the “holiday feeling”). Luxury resorts solve that problem by building the season into the experience.

The real luxury is friction-free togetherness:

  • No grocery runs, cooking marathons, or endless dishes

  • Everyone in one place, with space to spread out (suites, connecting rooms, villas)

  • Built-in activities for every age, without complicated logistics

  • A holiday that feels special… without requiring a host to make it special

For many families, the main gift becomes time together, meals that turn into long conversations, shared experiences, and photos that will always take you back to that special moment.

Kate’s Family Christmas at Grand Velas: A Blueprint for a Resort Holiday Done Right

Kate recently returned from celebrating Christmas at Grand Velas with her whole family and the trip captured what a luxury resort holiday can look like when it’s planned well.

Highlights from the week included:

  • Turtle and cenote tours (the kind of outing that feels exciting for kids and genuinely interesting for adults)

  • Spa appointments scheduled throughout the stay, built-in reset time that makes the holiday feel like a vacation

  • A Christmas show and festive programming on property

  • Dinners that felt like events, no coordinating reservations across town, no cleanup afterward

  • A professional photographer to capture family photos (a simple add-on that becomes the most valuable souvenir)

It’s the kind of holiday that still feels like Christmas, just with better service, better pacing, and far less effort.

What Luxury Resorts Do Differently at Christmas

Luxury resorts don’t just decorate. They produce the season, often with more programming and on-site experiences than any other time of year.

Common holiday upgrades at top resorts include:

  • Tree options in-room or in-villa (some properties place a fully decorated tree; others deliver a “bare” tree plus ornaments so families can decorate together)

  • Christmas Eve treats like Santa’s cookies via room service

  • Holiday shows, live music, carolers, and kids’ activities

  • Seasonal menus and special dining events that feel celebratory without being complicated

  • Festive touches that feel personal (welcome amenities, stockings, gingerbread displays, hot cocoa stations)

For families with kids, the biggest win is often simple: the resort handles the magic, and the family gets to enjoy it.

Holiday Magic Around the World: A Client-Favorite Reason to Travel

A luxury resort Christmas isn’t only about warm-weather escapes. Holiday travel can also become a once-a-year chance to experience another culture’s traditions during this time.

One great example comes from one of our clients holiday vacation in Paris: at Fouquet’s, the family arrived to a real Christmas tree in the room, beautifully decorated, plus a Santa teddy bear waiting as a welcome surprise. Each night brought a holiday treat, including a gingerbread house, and on Christmas Eve, stockings filled with sweets arrived with a note inviting everyone to see the restaurant’s tree. On Christmas morning, the hotel handed out gifts to every child in the property (including the older kids). Add genuinely warm service and a prime location for shopping, and it becomes the kind of holiday stay families talk about for years.

Whether the setting is Mexico, Paris, the Caribbean, or the mountains, the best properties make the holiday feel effortless and memorable.

What to Plan Early for a Luxury Christmas Resort Stay

Holiday weeks are different from “normal” travel weeks. Inventory moves faster, and the best options aren’t always the standard rooms, especially for large families.

Holiday planning priorities that tend to matter most:

  1. Room type and layout (connecting rooms, two-bedroom suites, villas, or multiple rooms near each other)

  2. Dining strategy (which nights need reservations, private dining options, and standout restaurants on property)

  3. Experiences and excursions (especially private tours and high-demand guides)

  4. Wellness time (spa appointments can book quickly during holiday weeks)

  5. Family photo plan (a photographer session turns into a keepsake)

Now is the time to start planning a luxury Christmas resort stay, especially for multi-generational trips where the right layout and logistics make all the difference.

KJ Travel advisors can match families with the right resort, the right room setup, and the right holiday-week pacing, so the trip feels celebratory and relaxing.

Oktoberfest to Alpine Lakes: Inside Rosewood Munich, Schloss Fuschl & Vienna

There’s nothing quite like late-September in this corner of Europe: Oompah bands and gingerbread hearts by day, mirror-still lakes and candlelit dinners by night. If you're looking for a trip that blends city energy with lake-country serenity (and some history), take this Munich -  Fuschl - Vienna route as your inspiration, with insider intel from Kate.

QUICK TAKE

Experience Germany’s legendary Oktoberfest, serene Alpine lakes, and imperial Vienna in one elevated week. Follow Kate’s first-hand route: Munich (with insider Oktoberfest access), a lakeside retreat at Rosewood Schloss Fuschl, and a grand Vienna finale, each stay handpicked for seamless transfers, exclusive dining, and spa indulgence. Plan your trip now for reserved festival seating, lakeside chalet escapes, and VIP city experiences.

Munich | Rosewood Munich + Oktoberfest

You land, drop your bags, and within hours you’re in full Oktoberfest mode. Wearing a Lederhosen or Dirndl is optional but highly encouraged (it's not only fun, but it immerses you into the whole Oktoberfest vibe). Kate’s practical take: you could opt to buy a costume made outfit or rent one for the occasion, the fairgrounds are open to all, but beer-hall access hinges on reserved tables. Those typically go first to prior-year holders when dates are released (around April), so we lean on trusted hosts (and partners) to secure tables and escort you to one of the two daily seatings. Steins of stronger festbier and family-style food are included; the atmosphere really lifts from 6–11 p.m. You can step out for rides and return to your table, and door-to-door transfers are smart—streets close and Rosewood Munich is a 25-plus-minute walk away. The event felt well managed, with daytime sessions and on-site medical support (yes, “drunk carts” are a thing).

On Kate’s night at Oktoberfest, her group had reserved places at the Wildstuben tent with private transfers (the effortless way to do it). The next day brought a Munich highlights tour, a site inspection at Rosewood Munich, and a classic evening, Brasserie Cuvilliés for dinner followed by drinks at Bar Montez.

Kate loved that Rosewood was just a five-minute walk from Marienplatz, surrounded by a lively locals’ bar scene. Visiting during Christmas market season is another wonderful way to experience the city. KJTravel partners with several top hotels in Munich to suit every traveler—just ask your KJT advisor to help plan your stay.

Kate's advice: If Oktoberfest is your goal, tell us early. We’ll target the right tent vibe for you (families vs. friends-night-out), lock seating, arrange a guide/host, and handle those crucial transfers so you float past the crowds and focus on the fun.

Fuschl | Rosewood Schloss Fuschl

A rainy forecast shifted the Salzburg walking tour slightly (Kate's packing recommendation for fall in Austria: Layers! They are your best friend), but it still hit the icons (Hohensalzburg Fortress included) before a check-in at Rosewood Schloss Fuschl.

Kate’s recommendation: base in Fuschl (about 25 minutes from Salzburg) for a stronger sense of place and those lakefront one- to three-bedroom chalets. Plan three nights with a full day at leisure  to enjoy the property (in summer, that means real time on the water). There’s an easy 1.5-mile stroll into charming Fuschl village and family-friendly programming that keeps kids happy by the lake while you unwind.

This day looked like this for Kate: transfer to St. Gilgen, boat across Lake Wolfgang to St. Wolfgang, then funicular up Schafberg for panoramic views and lunch at the summit, followed by pre-dinner drinks at Schloss Bar and dinner at Schloss Restaurant back at the hotel.

Kate's advice: Schloss Fuschl is ideal for couples who want privacy (book a chalet) and for families who value space and easy, outdoors-forward days. We’ll time your lake activities, spa, and dining so it all feels effortless.

Vienna | Rosewood Vienna

The transition day doubles as sightseeing: stop in Melk for a cultural leg-stretch, then on to wine tasting at Fuhrgassl-Huber and a traditional Heuriger dinner, arriving to check-in at Rosewood Vienna.

In the city, Kate loved the prime First-District location amid luxury shopping, the standout rooftop bar and restaurant, and spa suites with steam and saunas (note: no pool). The building’s secret (one of Mozart’s former residences) adds a quiet thrill; and an anticipated White Lotus shoot ultimately didn’t happen, which somehow keeps it feeling like a well-kept secret. The team’s day included a Vienna highlights walking tour and dinner at Rosewood Vienna, an easy way to settle into the city.

Kate's advice: With museums, coffeehouses, and concert halls at your feet, we’ll stitch together an itinerary that balances “musts” with pockets of unscheduled time—plus a rooftop golden-hour reservation you won’t forget.

FAQ: Planning Your Munich-Vienna Journey

How do I secure Oktoberfest beer tent reservations?
Most prime beer tent tables at Oktoberfest are released to repeat bookers as early as April. Book with KJT to leverage established local partners, securing the right tent, seating, and private transfers for your group.

When should I start planning this trip?
To unlock top tents at Oktoberfest and secure choice lakefront rooms or Vienna suites, start planning 6–12 months in advance. This timeline ensures best availability for each event and experience, particularly from late September to early October.

Are the Fuschl chalets worth it over castle rooms?
If you value privacy and residential-style living, absolutely. The chalets deliver your own front door, private lakefront terrace, wood-burning fireplace, and sauna. The Two-Bedroom Chalet includes a Mercedes excursion and picnic experience, which families particularly appreciate. If you prefer being in the castle's historic rooms with traditional hotel service, those work too. They're just different experiences.

What’s the best way to see Vienna after arriving from the lakes?
The suggested route stops in Melk for a cultural break, then a wine tasting dinner en route to Vienna. In Vienna, a centrally located hotel like Rosewood Vienna gives easy access to museums, coffee houses, and the First District, plus rooftop dining and spa relaxation on arrival.

Do you recommend this itinerary for families, couples, or friend groups?
This route is customizable. Couples often prefer secluded chalets and intimate dining, families appreciate Fuschl’s on-site programming, and friend groups enjoy tailored Oktoberfest nights and city tours, all with personal guide and transfer options arranged ahead of time.

The combination of Munich's Bavarian tradition, Fuschl's alpine setting, and Vienna's imperial elegance creates a trip that balances energy with relaxation. Whether you're timing it for Oktoberfest, chasing autumn foliage, or seeking a shoulder-season European escape, this route deliversStart planning 6-12 months ahead for September travel to secure Oktoberfest reservations and prime accommodations. The Ultimate Guide to Luxury Thanksgiving Travel

Looking to trade kitchen chaos for curated bliss? This is your insider playbook to spend this upcoming Thanksgiving somewhere extraordinary (beachfront, snow-dusted, or wrapped in city sparkle) but that still feels like a home away from home.

First things first: timing & strategy

Expect record crowds. Last year set all-time highs for Thanksgiving travel, and patterns hold: the busiest days are the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after. Consider flying Mon/Tue early, on Thanksgiving Day itself, or returning Friday or Saturday to dodge the worst.

Festive Europe advantage. Major cities ignite holiday lights and Christmas markets from late November, creating a magical backdrop without December’s crush. (Berlin markets open around Nov 24, for example.)

Early-season ski bet. Many Rockies resorts target mid–late November openings; snow is variable, but town vibe + holiday programming still make it a win.

Parade views in NYC. If a bucket-list parade morning is the dream, reserve parade-route rooms, like New York Hilton Midtown on Sixth Ave. These book far in advance.

Where to go (and our favorite places to stay)

Sun & Sea

  • St. Barts — Cheval Blanc; Eden Rock; Rosewood Le Guanahani. Why now: glam scene without peak pricing before late-Dec high season.

  • Turks & Caicos — Amanyara; COMO Parrot Cay; Grace Bay Club.

  • Anguilla — Cap Juluca (Belmond); Four Seasons Anguilla; Aurora Anguilla.

  • Bahamas (Nassau/Paradise Island) — The Ocean Club (Four Seasons); Rosewood Baha Mar; The Cove at Atlantis.

  • Los Cabos — Four Seasons Cabo San Lucas at Cabo Del Sol,  Waldorf Astoria Pedregal; One&Only Palmilla; Chileno Bay (Auberge).

  • Riviera Nayarit — St. Regis Punta Mita, Four Seasons Punta Mita, Four Seasons Naviva, and Susurros del Corazón. In the Mandarina area: O&O Mandarina and Rosewood Mandarina.

  • Riviera Maya/Mayakoba — Rosewood Mayakoba; Belmond Maroma, Hotel Esencia, Grand Velas

  • Hawai‘i (Maui / Hawai‘i Island / O‘ahu) — Four Seasons Hualālai; FS Maui at Wailea; Halekulani; Mauna Lani (Auberge). November brings warm weather and lively but manageable visitor numbers versus December peaks.

City Spectacle & Festive Energy

  • New York City — Aman New York; The Plaza; The Mark; The Carlyle. For parade-week magic and world-class dining. (Book parade-view rooms found at Mandarin Oriental and The 1 Hotel Central Park a year in advance)

  • London — Claridge’s; The Connaught; Browns, Raffles OWO. Lights, shopping, theatre.

  • Paris — Ritz Paris; Cheval Blanc; Le Bristol. Festive windows + museums before December’s surge.

  • Munich (Markets begin late Nov) — Rosewood, The Charles, Mandarin Oriental

Mountains,  Possible Snow-Early & Cozy-Luxe

  • Aspen — The Little Nell; St. Regis Aspen; Hotel Jerome (Auberge).

  • Vail/Beaver Creek — Four Seasons Vail; The Arrabelle; Park Hyatt Beaver Creek.

  • Deer Valley — Montage Deer Valley; St. Regis Deer Valley; Stein Eriksen Lodge.

  • Big sky - Montage and Newly opened One and Only Moonlight Basin (excited to get feedback from some lucky clients headed there this Thanksgiving). Ask us about pre opening promos

How we elevate your Thanksgiving

  • Reservation wrangling for holiday dining, spas, and kids’ clubs.

  • The right rooms (connecting, view, private pools), verified with the property, not just “requested.”

Portugal, Perfected: Lisbon, Algarve & Madeira

There’s a special kind of glow to Portugal in summer, the tiled terraces, the panoramic sunsets and the salt-soft breeze off the Atlantic.

If you're dreaming of a trip that blends city culture, seaside ease, and island adventure, Kate's recent family journey through Lisbon, Algarve, and Madeira is a blueprint for exactly that. Below, we share where to stay, what to do, and how KJ Travel strings it all together, especially in Madeira, where the magic truly unfolds.

Lisbon: Classic City, Fresh Energy

Where we stayed: Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon
Set high on one of the city's seven hills, the Four Seasons is an urban resort with oversized rooms (most with balconies), a spa and indoor lap pool, and a new outdoor pool and garden terrace that feel like a private club in the middle of the city. From the rooftop, Eduardo VII Park spreads below like a green carpet, with São Jorge Castle perched on the opposite hill, a view that shifts as evening falls. Kate was able to stop by and check the newly renovated rooms as well.

Kate's stay Three nights in Lisbon gave time to settle into the city's rhythm and explore, Kate recommends stopping by one of José Alvarez restaurants, definitely a favorite.

How we’d shape your days

  • Private guiding through Lisbon’s neighborhoods and time in Belém’s monuments, with a hands-on tile-making workshop for a meaningful keepsake (Kate’s family loved bringing home their own pieces).

  • A half-day to Sintra (approx. 40 minutes from town) for palaces and misty hilltops, then back to the hotel for a sunset swim on the new pool terrace.

Advisor tip: Make sure to check Google Maps, so it can tell you about incline and elevation changes through its "Terrain" view and the elevation profile for walking and cycling directions…Trust us, we've hiked those hills.

Algarve: Sun-Drenched Coast, Lazy-Day Rhythm

Where we stayed: VILA VITA Parc
Perched above the Atlantic in Porches, VILA VITA Parc is a lush, 54-acre cliffside oasis with 12 restaurants (including two-Michelin-star Ocean), a Sisley spa, family-friendly spaces, and direct beach access. It’s classic Algarve, golden sand coves, grottoes and caves, and warm hospitality.

Kate's stay
Three easy, summer-slow days (beach, spa, pool, kids’ club) plus dinners at Whale and Arte Náutica. The highlight: a private catamaran along the Lagos coastline, gliding past the famous golden cliffs and sea grottoes. Kate's family also explored the caves around Carvoeiro.

How we’d shape your days

  • Day at leisure on property (spa, beach, pool repeat).

  • Private catamaran to explore Benagil-area sea caves; swim stops where the water is clearest.

  • Driver-guided outing to whitewashed towns for tiles, ceramics, and gelato on the praça.

Madeira: Adventure, Gardens & Old-World Glamour

Where we stayed: Reid’s Palace, A Belmond Hotel
A legend since 1891, Reid’s sits on a promontory above Funchal with terraced gardens, sea-view pools (including a tidal pool down by the waves), tennis, and the island’s first Michelin-starred dining at William. It’s the grand dame with a playful soul, afternoon tea, sunset cocktails, and front-row views of the Atlantic.

Kate’s stay
Three nights was the sweet spot for a first look at the island. Her family loved the 1891 Bar for sunset petiscos (small savory dish, very similar to spanish tapas) and a proper Porto Tónico, a fun local twist on the classic spritz.

What Madeira looks like when we plan it

Day 1 – Hills & Gardens

  • Gondola to Monte for cinematic island views.

  • Monte Palace Botanical Garden wander with our favorite guide for the best paths and photo angles.

  • Aperitivo at 1891 Bar  on Reid’s terrace

Day 2 – Sea Cliffs by Boat

  • Private boat day along Cabo Girão, among Europe’s highest sea cliffs; swim in glass-clear water that’s often warmer than the Algarve in midsummer (Kate noticed the difference).

  • Fresh  lunch and a lazy sail back toward Funchal as the sun drops.

Day 3 – Levadas, Toboggans & Wine

  • Morning levada walk (scenic irrigation-channel trails) tailored to your pace, then the iconic Carro de Cesto wicker toboggan ride down the steep lanes of Monte, equal parts history and thrill.

  • Madeira flavors: espetada (grilled beef on bay-leaf skewers), bolo do caco (garlic-buttered sweet bread), and a tasting of Madeira’s fortified wines.

Why Reid’s is perfect for families
Garden-level rooms with terraces, multiple pools, kid-approved dining, and space to roam, plus Belmond’s famously warm service. We layer in curated experiences (dolphin/whale-spotting, jeep tours, garden tours) so everyone gets their version of adventure.

Logistics made easy
Fly into Funchal (FNC); it’s a short drive to the hotel. Seasonal nonstop routes from Newark have recently made access even smoother. We handle transfers, boat charters, and dining so your time is pure play.

How We Stitch It Together

Kate’s Portugal flow—Algarve - Lisbon - Madeira—works beautifully for families: start with beach-day ease, shift to city culture, and end on an island high note. On her trip we reserved VILA VITA Parc for three nights, then Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon for three, and finally Reid’s Palace for three—an elegant cadence that balances rest and discovery.

VIP treatment
As a KJ Travel client, you’ll receive our preferred-partner perks (think: upgrades when available, daily breakfast, resort credits, welcome amenities) and priority wait-lists at in-demand restaurants and kids’ clubs. At these properties, those little advantages add up to a noticeably smoother stay.

Iceland in Summer: A Luxury Family Adventure

There’s a reason Iceland feels like another planet, steaming earth, crashing waterfalls, and glowing blue glaciers. It’s raw, cinematic, and, yes, surprisingly luxurious. If you’ve ever wondered whether Iceland can deliver a high-end family vacation, the answer is a resounding yes and KJ Travel advisor Melissa just proved it.

She recently returned from a six-night, summer adventure through Iceland with her family. The trip was the perfect blend of adrenaline, natural wonder, and five-star relaxation. Every detail was expertly planned.

This is what a real luxury Iceland itinerary looks like, built for families but also made for travelers who want it all.

Reykjavik: Coastal Thrills & Spa-Level Serenity

The trip began at The Reykjavik EDITION (which Melissa's family LOVED), Iceland’s first five-star city hotel. Sleek and modern, it’s just steps from the Harpa Concert Hall and perfectly placed to explore the capital.

Instead of diving into sightseeing right away, Melissa’s family began with a rejuvenating visit to The Retreat Spa at the Blue Lagoon. Floating through mineral-rich waters surrounded by volcanic rock set the tone for the trip ahead.

That evening, a private RIB boat tour offered high-speed views of the Reykjavik coast, where dolphins, puffins, and the glassy Atlantic brought the first dose of Icelandic beauty and adventure.

Day two took the family west with a private tour to Glymur Waterfall, one of Iceland’s tallest and most breathtaking waterfalls. Afterward, they soaked in Hvammsvík Hot Springs, a collection of natural geothermal pools that ebb and flow with the tide, an experience that truly blurs the line between sea and spa.

Later that day, the family  geared up for a private jet ski ride through Reykjavik Bay, cruising past Viðey Island and hugging the dramatic coastline.

The Golden Circle: Classic Iceland with a Twist

The Golden Circle is a must-see, and Melissa’s family explored it with a private guide. Stops included:

  • Þingvellir National Park (a UNESCO site),

  • Gullfoss Falls, and

  • The Geysers of Haukadalur Valley.

What made this classic route better? A lunch stop at Friðheimar, a working tomato greenhouse where guests dine amongst the vines and sip on fresh tomato soup straight from the source. The day closed with a peaceful horseback ride on iconic Icelandic horses.

South Coast: Buggy Rides, WaterfallS & MORE

Heading into Iceland’s south coast, the family checked into Skálakot Manor, a refined hotel set on a working Icelandic farm that quickly became a favorite for its blend of rustic charm and boutique luxury. Days were packed with adventure: chasing waterfalls like Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, navigating the remote canyons of Thakgil by buggy, and wrapping up with a private glacial river fishing tour, where their freshly caught Arctic char later appeared on their dinner plates. Further east, a stay near Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon offered a front-row seat to Iceland’s most surreal landscape. A private kayak tour took them paddling through floating icebergs, with a visit to nearby Diamond Beach, where glacier shards sparkled across black sand. On their final day, the family hiked and ice climbed across Sólheimajökull Glacier, scaling shimmering ice walls with expert guides. The trip ended at Hotel Rangá, where themed suites, stargazing, and gourmet cuisine offered the perfect reward after a week of hands-on adventure.

What made this itinerary so amazing

Melissa’s itinerary struck a rare balance: high-energy adventures tempered by luxurious rest, all expertly customized for a family with older kids. Every experience was private and guided and every moment thoughtfully designed.

And while it felt remote, it was never logistically complicated exactly what you want when traveling with family.

Were you inspired to travel to Iceland? Whether you do it with kids, as a couple, as a family or with a group of friends, we can help you explore Iceland’s elemental beauty without sacrificing comfort. From private kayaking to glacier climbs, we’ll curate a seamless itinerary that fits your travel style.

Chasing Cooler Days: Our Picks for Last-Minute Luxury Summer Escapes to Beat the Heat

There’s nothing quite like that first wave of real summer heat, the kind that makes you long for shade, sea breezes, or cool mountain mornings. If you're ready to swap that heat for fresh air and a slower pace, this is your list. These cool(er) weather luxury destinations are close enough for a spontaneous summer getaway, but far enough to feel like a full reset. These are the escapes our travel advisors are recommending when five-star comfort and cooler temps are calling.

COLORADO & UTAH

Four Seasons Resort Vail

If you’re craving crisp mountain air and alpine elegance, Four Seasons Vail delivers. Located in the heart of Vail Village, this sleek mountain retreat makes summer feel like a breath of fresh air. Expect spacious rooms with panoramic views of the Rockies, cozy mornings on the balcony, and a heated outdoor pool for peak relaxation. Active days here mean fly-fishing, hiking, and biking through aspen groves; slow ones include spa treatments and locally sourced dishes that celebrate Colorado’s wild beauty. This is one of our favorite cool-weather escapes when everywhere else is overheating.

The St. Regis Deer Valley, Park City

In Utah’s Deer Crest community, The St. Regis Deer Valley blends mountain serenity with five-star indulgence. Ride a private funicular to the resort and take in sweeping Wasatch Range views, plush rooms with marble details, and expansive private terraces. Unwind in the infinity pool, sip wine from the 14,000-bottle cellar, and book a custom treatment at the Remède Spa. For an ultra-refined summer escape in Park City, this is it.

MONTANA & WYOMING

Montage Big Sky

Located in Montana’s Spanish Peaks, just 45 minutes from Yellowstone, Montage Big Sky is a luxury mountain resort that offers year-round adventure and five-star comfort. During the summer months, swap ski boots for hiking boots, saddle up for horseback rides, or cast a fly rod in the river below. Inside, you’ll find rustic-luxe design, five restaurants (including Cortina and the cozy Alpenglow lounge), and an 11,000-square-foot Spa Montage. Each suite or residence is outfitted with warm wood, stone textures, and serene mountain views, making this one of Montana’s best cool-weather retreats.

Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole

For travelers craving wild landscapes without compromising on service, Four Seasons Jackson Hole offers front-row views of Grand Teton National Park and direct access to outdoor adventures. Located in Teton Village, this alpine resort features ski-in/ski-out access in winter, and in summer, it’s all about fly-fishing, wildlife spotting, and soaking in the stars. End your day with fireside cocktails, elevated dining, or a massage at the tranquil spa. This is the definition of elevated adventure and a true luxury escape in Wyoming.

California

Carmel Valley Ranch

Tucked into 500 acres of wine country in Carmel, California, this all-suite resort is where luxury meets nature. Enjoy morning hikes through oak-covered trails, a round on the Pete Dye golf course, or a treatment at Spa Aiyana. The resort caters to families with kid-friendly programming (think animal encounters and nightly s’mores) while offering couples the kind of quiet luxury that makes Carmel one of California’s top cool-weather getaways. Dining is a highlight especially at Valley Kitchen, where ingredients come straight from the onsite garden.

Montage Laguna Beach

Perched on a bluff above the Pacific, Montage Laguna Beach offers panoramic views, Craftsman-style rooms, and direct access to Treasure Island Beach. Book a couples’ massage at Spa Montage or unwind at the Mosaic Bar and Grille with fresh seafood and a view. With 258 guest rooms and bungalows, all featuring private balconies or patios, this is Southern California at its most luxurious and a perfect summer escape when the heat is rising inland.

Rosewood Miramar Beach, Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara brings the best of the American Riviera, beaches, wine country, and effortless elegance and nowhere captures that better than Rosewood Miramar Beach. Oceanfront suites open directly onto the sand, cabanas line the pool, and spa treatments come with a sea view. This is beach luxury at its most refined.

The Resort at Pelican Hill, Newport Coast

Looking for an Italian-style getaway without leaving California? Pelican Hill overlooks 500+ acres of oceanfront cliffs and brings European elegance to the California coast. Expect private villas with soaking tubs and limestone fireplaces, two Tom Fazio-designed golf courses, and one of the largest circular pools in the world. With a Roman-inspired spa and complimentary beach service to Crystal Cove, this is a five-star resort that checks every box for a relaxing, warm-but-breezy summer retreat.

Looking for mountain air? Old Edwards Inn in Highlands, NC and Hotel Domestique near the Blue Ridge Mountains offer upscale comfort and easy access to cool-weather hikes, waterfalls, and wine tastings. 12,000 Acres of Peace and Play: What Makes Primland a Dream Summer Escape

There’s something about mountain air, cooler, quieter, and instantly calming. KJT Travel Advisor Chelsea experienced it firsthand on her recent visit to Primland. If you're ready to unplug, reset, and escape the noise, Primland Resort in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains might just be your next great luxury getaway. Set on 12,000 private acres, this Auberge Resorts Collection property blends rugged outdoor adventure with refined comfort. It’s part luxury lodge, part adult summer camp and fully worth the drive up the mountain.

Getting There Is Half the Experience

Primland Resort doesn’t just feel remote, it is remote. You'll arrive at either the North or South gate, depending on your route, and from there, it's a scenic 25-minute drive up the mountain. As Chelsea noted, the elevation drops the temperature by nearly 10 degrees, so don’t forget to pack layers (she wore a sweater nearly every morning during her visit Mid May).

The closest commercial airports are about 90 minutes away, making this the kind of Blue Ridge Mountains escape where renting a car or splurging on a helicopter transfer to the resort makes sense.

Where Rugged Meets Refined

Think of Primland as approachable luxury: five-star comfort with a rustic soul. The vibe is elevated lodge meets understated elegance, nothing too flashy, but undeniably beautiful. Chelsea thinks this is a perfect fit for couples or families who want luxury with a more laid-back feel.

Inside, rooms and suites mix native woods with sleek finishes and moody mountain views. Outside? You’ve got miles of wilderness to explore. Whether you're fly fishing in a private stream, riding through forest trails on horseback, testing your aim on the sporting clay course, or stargazing at the resort’s observatory, every activity is guided and elevated. You can go full throttle with RTV off-roading, tree-climbing, or aim with a bow and arrow. The golf course? very challenging (in the best way) which Chelsea thinks some of our clients will absolutely love.

Primland is also one of the rare Orvis double-endorsed lodges in the U.S., offering the uniquely thrilling experience of Driven Pheasant Shoots, something you won’t find just anywhere.

Prefer a slower pace? Start your morning with yoga, book an organic facial, or float in the heated indoor pool (an outdoor pool is on the way!). And don’t skip dinner: ingredients like local trout and heritage meats shine in dishes rooted in Appalachian flavor, served with panoramic sunset views.

Family-Forward, Not Kid-Centric

Primland Resort strikes a thoughtful balance, what Chelsea calls “adult-friendly, family-forward.” It’s ideal for families with school-aged kids ready for adventure: think hiking, fishing, and ropes courses through The Junior Mountaineers Kids Club (available in summer for ages six and up). While there’s no year-round childcare or babysitting, families who love to explore together will find plenty to do. It’s luxury with room to roam, designed for travelers of all ages who thrive outdoors, just with a little more independence.

Why Primland Belongs on Your Summer Travel List

Primland is luxury in its most grounded form, refined, immersive and deeply connected to place. It’s perfect for couples craving reconnection, families with older kids ready for adventure, or friends looking to unwind in nature without compromising comfort.

From misty Blue Ridge mornings to fly fishing in quiet streams and observatory stargazing, every detail is thoughtfully crafted. This is where high-end hospitality meets the soul of the Appalachian outdoors.

Ready to plan your Blue Ridge escape or a cooler weather escape this summer? Let us take care of the details so you can focus on fresh air, new memories, and that second glass of wine by the fire.

Spring Break hits different when it’s done right. Whether you’re chasing barefoot luxury, postcard-perfect beaches, a total digital detox, or some fresh powder, we can help bring your Spring Break vacation plans to life. We travel around the world with our families too, so we can discover new destinations and experiences to better inform our clients. Here’s a recap of where some of our luxury travel advisors spent their Spring Breaks.

Turtle Inn, Belize

For the family who craves adventure with a side of barefoot luxury

Nestled in the tranquil town of Placencia, Turtle Inn is a lush, low-key hideaway where every detail feels considered and every day unfolds at your own pace. The resort’s relaxed yet refined design makes it easy to slow down and truly savor island time.

Mornings begin with the soft rustle of palm trees and end with candlelit dinners at one of the resort’s four standout restaurants. And in between? Pure magic. Picture your family fly fishing for bonefish from remote islets, the Caribbean stretching out in every direction. Later, you’ll head to the reef, reeling in fresh fish then watch as the resort’s chef transforms your catch into vibrant ceviche and crudo dishes.

The aquatic thrills don’t stop there. Snorkeling trips bring you face to face with nurse sharks, sea turtles, and the mesmerizing eagle ray. The small size of the resort means attentive service at every turn, making this an ideal escape for families looking to unplug without sacrificing comfort.

A pool at the beach with lounge chairs, palm trees and warm light

The Bahamas

For the ones that want sunshine, snorkeling and a close encounter with wildlife

The Bahamas is all about vibrant colors, laid-back vibes, and fun for the whole family. Spring Break here doesn’t just feel like a vacation it feels like you’ve stepped into a postcard. On a private boat trip through the Exumas, every stop had its own “wow” moment from swimming with the famous beach-loving pigs to strolling along a sparkling sandbar full of stingrays and starfish.

Snorkeling in a deep blue hole felt like diving into a real-life kaleidoscope, with parrotfish and angelfish swimming all around. Over at Blow Hole Beach, waves burst through a natural rock formation like a geyser, had everyone, kids and grown-ups alike, mesmerized. And at Iguana Beach? You’ll be hand-feeding the locals (iguanas).

When it’s time to slow down, Coconut Club is the perfect chill spot beachside drinks, comfy lounge chairs, and floaties for the whole crew. For a quieter vibe, families will love the charm of Harbour Island with its soft sands and peaceful pace. And if you're sneaking in a little romance, The Cove at Eleuthera nails it with just the right mix of seclusion and luxury.

St. Regis Deer Valley, Utah

For the family who wants snow-dusted luxury without the ski-day stress

At the St. Regis Deer Valley, everything about a ski vacation with kids becomes easier and infinitely more elegant. Nestled on the slopes of one of Utah’s most beloved ski destinations, this resort blends cozy mountain charm with elevated service and thoughtful family touches throughout.

The true ski-in/ski-out access means no carrying gear across icy parking lots. Rentals, lift passes, and the ski valet are all in one place, streamlining the entire process so you can spend less time coordinating and more time on the slopes. An app makes booking shuttles into town or to the base a breeze.

On property, every restaurant welcomes children with kid-friendly menus and built-in activities, while still offering a refined dining experience for grown-ups. If you're lucky, you'll have a special culinary experience, this time it was "Culinary Takeover" featuring Food Network stars Jeff Mauro and Geoffrey Zakarian.

Nights end with s’mores by the fire and mugs of hot cocoa, while mornings begin with coffee delivered by the resort’s signature butler team.

If you're looking for a ski getaway that caters to both kids and grown-ups without sacrificing style or service, St. Regis Deer Valley delivers at every turn.

Disney Cruise to the Bahamas

For the family chasing magic, sunshine, and stress-free fun for all ages

When your kids utter the words “We want to go on a Disney cruise!” it might not sound like your version of luxury but hear us out. For Spring Break, Kate set sail with family and friends aboard the Disney Magic. And it turns out, this type of trip checks a lot of boxes when it comes to effortless fun for all ages.

With concierge-level service (highly recommended), parents actually get to relax. Think priority boarding, exclusive lounges, and stress-free dining worth it, especially during high season when ships are nearly full. Kids bounce between clubs tailored to every age group from toddlers to teens while grown-ups enjoy poolside cocktails and easy company during meals.

Ship type (aka age) and cabin location matter. Disney Wish launched in 2022, the common spaces, restaurants and cabins all felt very fresh; Cabin location is another big one: we always help our clients choose the best layout and quietest spot for their crew.

Dining? Surprisingly accommodating. Even with allergies in the group, menus were flexible, flavorful, and thoughtfully managed.

And of course, part of the magic is leaning all the way in pirate night costumes, door decorations, Magic Bands, and a few Disney extras make it even more fun!

We love helping clients figure out which Disney experience makes the most sense at each stage Disneyland, Disney World, a Disney Cruise, or a little mix of everything. From VIP guides to hotel upgrades (spoiler alert: we adore Four Seasons Orlando), we’re here to make the magic feel personal and unforgettable we’re here to help you plan it all, down to the Amazon packing list.

Spring Break may be behind us, but your next unforgettable trip is just around the corner. Whether you're thinking about a summer family getaway, a romantic fall escape, or a festive holiday trip, now’s the time to start planning.

Mexico City: Best Activities, Dining Hotspots, and Accommodations

Recently, Kate had the pleasure of exploring Mexico City, known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and of course, how big it is. But don’t worry we’re here to help you navigate it.

When it comes to staying in Mexico City, the options are as diverse as the city itself. We split our stay between Casa Polanco and the Four Seasons Mexico City. While these two options are among the best in the city, they are very different. Casa Polanco which opened in May 2022 was a quiet retreat in the lively Polanco area, offering a sleek design with 19 rooms and top-notch service. One of the place's highlights was their complimentary high tea in the afternoon.

The Four Seasons, with its prime location and lush gardens, delivered luxury at every turn. Their spa offers a unique mix of traditional Mexican healing techniques and modern luxury. With an Instagrammable courtyard and the Fifty Mils bar, recognized as one of the top bars in the world, it's no wonder guests are always impressed. We're also eagerly anticipating the upcoming room renovations!

The buzz is all about the Rosewood Mexico City, which is set to open in 2025 in Polanco. It's set to join the ranks of favorites like The Ritz Carlton, a high-rise luxury building.

Some of our favorite things to do?

Every Saturday in the barrio of San Angel, there's an outdoor artisan market. The market itself is exclusive to Saturdays, but the shops lining the streets leading to the main square, along with the restaurants, are open throughout the week. We dined at Hacienda de San Angel, known for its delicious margaritas! We also tried Lardo, a hip Mexican-European fusion restaurant that we highly recommend. Dining at Pujol is a must, but be sure to make a reservation in advance. Also, don't miss out on eating at Contramar to try the delicious fish dishes.

Shopping was an experience in itself, with Polanco and La Roma offering everything from unique local crafts to designer labels.

The National Museum of Anthropology is a must and the city is also full of family-friendly activities that promise fun for visitors of all ages. Some activities include the zoo and interactive museums like Papalote Museo del Niño. Families can enjoy boat rides on the ancient canals of Xochimilco for a bit of adventure.

In all, Mexico City is a place that offers history and vibrant culture. It promises an experience you won't forget. When you’re ready to plan your luxury trip to Mexico City, you can easily pair it with Cabos San Lucas.

Top Hotels in Milan

Recently, we had the incredible opportunity to attend DUCO Italy, a conference that's all about showcasing the best of Italy to the world, this year hosted in Milan. And, of course, the luxury hotels in Milan were a highlight. Here’s a closer look at the hotels we explored:

Casa Cipriani

Casa Cipriani is in the historic Palazzo Bernasconi with views overlooking the Indro Montanelli Gardens. Casa Cipriani acts as an exclusive Private Members Club, where hotel guests become temporary members during their stay. It's not just a hotel but also a social club, and only hotel guests can have access to these restaurants. So, if you stay here, you can enjoy the club's perks. The club Restaurant and Living room have amazing panoramic city views. With interiors by Florentine designer Michele Bonan, each of the 15 rooms gives off sophistication, making it the perfect sanctuary in the heart of Milan.

Mandarin Oriental Milan

The Mandarin Oriental Milan offers a charming mix of Milanese style and design in the heart of the city. You can discover dining at the two-Michelin-starred restaurant Seta, run by chef Antonio Guida, or unwind in their Mandarin Garden. With access to beautiful outdoor courtyards and the city's largest indoor swimming pool, Mandarin Oriental offers the perfect blend of luxury and relaxation.

The Four Seasons Hotel Milano

The Four Seasons Hotel Milano is in the heart of Montpellier in between all the shops, this is a fashion shoppers dream location! They are renovating their rooms and we got a sneak peak of the renovation and design and we are so excited about this! Take advantage of the revitalizing spa services or go to nearby sites like the Duomo and Pinacoteca di Brera—all within walking distance.

Palazzo Parigi

The Palazzo Parigi shows a blend of Italian and French inspiration in Milan's Brera district. Their spa is really unique, inspired by Moroccan traditions which has a private Hammam suite and is strategically located on the 3rd floor, allowing natural light. As for family-friendly amenities, the hotel provides childcare services, high chairs, baby-changing facilities, and offers babysitting arrangements, ensuring that families have everything they need for a comfortable stay.

Park Hyatt Milan

The Park Hyatt just celebrated their 20th anniversary and is location, location location! It’s directly at the entrance of the Galleria, just one block from the iconic Piazza Duomo and a 3 min walk to the Scala Opera Center. The hotel is located within the historic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, an enclosed shopping building housing the original Prada store, where guests can have private shopping experiences which we can arrange. With stylish rooms and suites, as well as renowned bars like Mio Lab, one of the most renowned bars in Milan, it's the perfect destination for travelers seeking sophistication and luxury in the heart of the city.

Portrait Milano

Portrait Milano gives a unique vibe with its captivating interior courtyard, which once served as a space within the monastery that previously occupied the building. Featuring 73 rooms and suites, some even having walk-in closets, this boutique hotel ensures both comfort and style for its guests. The hotel's speakeasy Rumor bar adds an extra layer of excitement with its nightly entertainment, making it a standout destination in Milan's vibrant nightlife scene. And let's not forget, Portrait Milano is part of a beloved collection of sister hotels, that clients love in Florence and Rome, ensuring a consistent standard of excellence and hospitality.

KJ Travel's Spring Break Trips

Several of the KJ Travel advisors took personal family vacations over Spring Break from wine country to Mexico beaches and colonial towns and snow skiing. Here’s where they stayed and what they did!

Melissa took her family and joined several other friends at Cabo's favorite Chileno Bay. It was the perfect destination resort for families and teens – just big enough for there to be plenty of entertainment onsite, but not a mega-resort by any means.  The Two Bedroom Pool Villas are a fabulous option for a family and the service was impeccable.  The kids loved snorkeling straight from the beach with a Chileno Bay expert who even found the reef sharks, caught them on GoPro, and later found them by the pool to Air Drop the memorable footage.  Phenomenal breakfast, Pickleball games, and Well Spa were also a big hit. A day on the water on a private boat with friends was a win, from amazing Taco Bar, snorkeling, and SUP boards to lots of whale sightings.  Add in just a two-hour flight from Houston, this trip will be on repeat.

Esperanza, An Auberge Resort in Los Cabos

Madelyn went with kids and grandparents to Cabo and stayed in a lovely villa with a private plunge pool at Esperanza… The kids went to the kids club on Monday and Wednesday - ½ and full days are offered, and they have something for everyone.  The adults enjoyed their time at both the adult pools and the newly renovated spa and gym. Your personal butler can arrange reservations, transportation, and prepare appetizers for when everyone comes back to the hacienda to relax in the afternoon. Don’t miss the KJT included breakfast buffet. For those looking for luxury family resorts in Cabo or luxury villas in Cabo, we love helping clients find the perfect fit.

Brynne went with family to Oregon’s Willamette Valley for an adult spring break of sorts. They first stayed one night at Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa in Pacific City. Very small, but cozy and modern with an incredible farm-sourced restaurant. This hotel would be a great fit for a foodie couple exploring the Pacific Northwest. Next, they traveled to McMinnville and stayed at a small boutique hotel, The Atticus Hotel. McMinnville is a quirky town that has lots of small but quality restaurants and is surrounded by wineries and farmland. Wineries in Oregon are known for Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, but there were some features of bubbles and Rose as well. What Brynne likes most about the Willamette Valley is the collaborative and casual atmosphere, as the wineries are small, collaborative, and intimate. Definitely go in the later off-season, as there was never another person in the tasting rooms and the weather was gorgeous!

Willamette Valley, Oregon Wine Country

Lenni took off to the mountains with family in a multi-bedroom residence in Beaver Creek. They spent time on and off the slopes. Her nieces and nephews participated in ski school, adults got to enjoy adult time skiing and everyone loved the Apres Ski cookies at the mountain base that Beaver Creek is known for. When off the slopes, there is plenty to do in Beaver Creek Village such as ice skating, snowshoeing, sleigh riding, winter hiking and snowmobiling. Nearby, families can go to Lionshead Village and Vail Village for more entertainment options. Families also love Decabol, a bowling alley that provides fun for all ages, exploring the charming shops and dining at local eateries. There’s still time to hit the slopes this season or start planning for a mountain holiday or ski trip MLK or Pres Day 2025!

Kate and her family did a multi-stop vacation on the Yucatan Peninsula with a visit to one of the newest luxury resorts in Riviera Maya, St. Regis Kanai. Just 40 minutes south of Cancun and just north of the popular Mayakoba development, Kanai is a new property that includes Auberge Etereo, St. Regis, and the newest opening, The Edition. They filled their days playing in the calm sea waters, going on beach walks searching for shells, enjoying multiple pools and the kids loved the daily activities offered in the kid’s club. St. Regis Kanai offers daily activities like kayaking, paddle boarding, Mexican coffee tasting, beachfront cocktail classes, and traditional crafts. Their favorite restaurant on-site is Toro but guests can also take a short golf cart ride to dine at nearby Etereo or The Riviera Maya Edition.

From there, they had a wonderful driver take them across the Yucatan Peninsula (3.5 hour drive) to Merida. (Insider tip: you can make a stop along the way at the archaeological site, Chichen Itza!) They arrived at the next stop: Chable Yucatan, a boutique retreat consistently rated as one of the best hotels in Mexico. Situated in a lush jungle, this spot is a dream for anyone looking to unwind and dive deep into wellness vibes. With 38 casitas and 2 villas (each with its pool!) that blend modern luxury with Mayan traditions, it's an immersive experience. The word that comes to mind most with this property is “magical.”

Deer are roaming the grounds, hundreds of years of history that you can see throughout the property, an abundance of helpful and friendly staff that know your name and preferences after Day 1. It was super relaxing and we had ample quality time together – from afternoons at the pool, biking around the property, seeing fireflies in the firefly garden, and participating in the ancient cacao to chocolate transformation. There is an amazing complimentary Kids Club that was super hands-on and the kids loved it! The property is also great for a group adults getaway or spa retreat with an afternoon happy hour ritual, a beautiful cigar lounge, one of the largest Tequila collections in the area, Mezcal tastings, and extensive spa offerings. With easy/ direct flights from much of Texas, New York, and California, it's an easy weekend getaway!

If you can believe it, we already have requests for Spring Break 2025! If you want your pick of top suites or villas or are wanting to do a bucket list trip next March (safaris and New Zealand are fun options!), let’s start planning!

Our Favorite Luxury Hotels from 2023

2023 was all about exploring new hotels and finding those dreamy destinations. Here at KJ Travel, we've had the pleasure of experiencing some of these remarkable properties firsthand, and we're excited to share our top picks from France to Mexico, and beyond.

FRANCE

Carlton Cannes

Following a two-year renovation, the Carlon Cannes transformed into a new modern design that still maintains the original Belle époque beauty of its predecessor, the InterContinental Carlton. The $500 million investment includes 37 new residences, a pool, a bar, and terraces for the first-floor rooms. Located on the prestigious Boulevard de la Croisette, Carlton Cannes also boasts a private beach and a terrace with expansive sea views. Kate has fond memories of a stay here years ago, watching the Bastille Day fireworks show over the sea. She loved getting to revisit and see the renovated property in 2023!

La Fantaisie

Located on Rue Cadet, La Fantaisie offers the perfect mix of whimsical charm and comfort with 73 rooms, including 10 suites. Plus, if you're into seafood, their restaurant serves up delicious pescatarian dishes. With options for connecting and adjoining rooms, it's great for families and groups. The big windows let in tons of natural light and we recommend the 5th floor, where Juliet balconies offer a charming glimpse of Parisian life. Don’t miss their rooftop, open from 5 PM to 12 AM!

ITALY

Furore Grand Hotel

With stunning views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Furore Grand Hotel opened for business in June 2023 and is located between Positano and Amalfi. Each of its 37 rooms faces the sea and offers either private balconies or terraces for magnificent views. The Amalfi Coast was one of the most popular destinations for KJT travelers in 2023, so we are delighted to see a new luxury property on the scene!

Six Sense Rome

Six Senses made its Italian debut earlier last year, introducing an urban sanctuary with 95 rooms and suites located on the Via del Corso pedestrian shopping promenade, just blocks from the ancient Pantheon and Fontana di Trevi. Guests can enjoy the spa hotel, restaurants, an outdoor courtyard garden, and a rooftop terrace with panoramic views of Rome. The opening of this hotel is incredibly exciting because it’s the first Six Senses in Italy!

Hotel La Palma

If you're looking for the newest luxury hotel in Capri, La Palma has been transformed into a 5-star elegant Oetker Collection hotel. It’s right in the heart of Capri, just steps away from the Piazzetta. Hotel La Palma has 50 rooms and suites, a rooftop restaurant and bar, an exclusive beach club, and a new pool deck. After a long-awaited reopening, travelers began checking in last summer! The only thing you'll have to worry about is choosing your outfit, but don't worry – we've got you covered with our essentials from our Amazon storefront.

TURKEY & GREECE

THE PENINSULA ISTANBUL

The Peninsula Istanbul is a gorgeous waterfront hotel that opened in early 2023, right on the Bosphorus River. It is the centerpiece of the new Galataport district along with new museums, art galleries, restaurants, and boutiques. There are 177 rooms, many of which have unobstructed river views, several swimming pools, and a luxurious spa.

One&Only, Aesthesis

The newest addition to the Athenian Riviera, One&Only Aesthesis, is a short boat ride away from Kea Island and about 30 minutes from the center of Athens. This is the perfect option for guests looking for a blend of relaxing beach vibes and the excitement of the city. They welcomed their first guests at the beginning of November of 2023. We've had the pleasure of staying at one of the most luxurious hotels in Greece.

MEXICO

Belmond Maroma

Reopened the main part of the hotel in Aug 2023 in the Riviera Maya, with the Guerlain spa and multi-bedroom suites opening later in the year. Our own Kate Johnson got a tour just weeks after the opening and loved the intimate size of the property, thoughtful Mexican artisan interior decor, prime location along Maroma Beach, and turtle release program. This renovation has benefited from Belmond’s acquisition by LVMH so no expense was spared in making this the luxury Mexico resort worthy of Belmond. We are a Belmond Bellini preferred partner which means when you book with KJT, our clients get the top priority for upgrades and VIP treatment plus daily breakfast, resort credits, and more!

St. Regis Kanai

Located in Riviera Maya, offering a stunning setting along the coastline, St. Regis Kanai is a blend of luxury and natural beauty. With its recent opening, the resort has a total of 143 rooms including suites providing guests with many options for accommodations, great beach access, and family programming, making it one of the best family-friendly resorts in Mexico. Right next to St. Regis Kanai is its sister hotel, The Riviera Maya Edition at Kanai, which also had a recent debut. Offering 143 rooms, tasty dining options, and prime beach access, these chic newcomers are perfect for travelers seeking a getaway.

UNITED STATES

1Hotel Hanalei Bay

Midway through 2023, 1Hotel Hanalei Bay—a renovated version of the previous Princeville Resort—rose to popularity as Kauai's ideal of sustainability. They have breathtaking views from every corner, farm-to-table dining experiences, 2 pools, and a Bamford Spa (with medi-spa services). KJ Travel Featured in USA Today

We’re so excited to share that KJ Travel was featured in this weekend’s USA Today discussing travel planning for 2022.

The article, titled “Can travel make you happy? Many Americans plan to find out as they plan trips for 2022,” includes travel trends for 2022 and the keys to a happier vacation next year.

One insider tip? Hiring a vetted travel pro :) to help you decode travel regulations, get the most out of your vacation time and travel funds, help with any issues that may arise and take the stress out of planning.

In addition to booking sooner rather than later and the increase in more “off the beaten path” destinations, we weighed in with the below trend:

Stay a little longer. "Longer stays and vetted home rentals will be popular for 2022," says Kate Johnson, owner of KJ Travel. She has several monthslong domestic and European itineraries already on the books. This allows for deeper immersion in a language and culture, and it might give you a perspective on the last two years."

Those interested in traveling in 2022 can really benefit from advanced planning with flexible booking policies and lower rates before inventory books up and rates increase.

We’re here to help with your next European family vacation, Mediterranean cruise, anniversary trip or exotic honeymoon!
