Three Of Mallorca's Top Luxury Hotels, Compared.

Mallorca has always had a certain magic. The island combines Mediterranean beaches, charming villages, incredible food, and that laid-back island pace that makes you feel like you just want to relax and simply enjoy life.

In recent years, Mallorca has reached a new level of luxury, making it one of Spain’s most sophisticated islands, thanks in large part to three standout hotels that each offer a completely different experience.

Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor brings back the glamour of a legendary beachfront estate. Belmond La Residencia offers the charm and character of an artists’ village tucked into the Tramuntana Mountains. Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra introduces a fresh take on modern luxury with a focus on exceptional dining, private coves, and a vibrant setting.

All three luxury hotels are remarkable, but they are designed for very different travelers. Here is how to decide which Mallorca hotel is the right fit for your next trip.

Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor

Before Mallorca became one of Europe’s most sought-after luxury destinations, there was Hotel Formentor.

The original property opened in 1929 on the island’s northern peninsula and quickly became a gathering place for artists, writers, and world leaders. Winston Churchill, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and Charlie Chaplin were among the notable guests who experienced its legendary atmosphere.

After a complete restoration, Four Seasons reopened the property in August 2024, bringing this historic retreat into a new era while preserving the spirit that made it so special.

The setting is what makes Formentor truly unforgettable. The resort sits on a 40-hectare private estate surrounded by pine forests, with direct access to one of Mallorca’s most beautiful beaches. Guests can enjoy coastal walks, a private jetty, vineyard experiences, and dinners beneath the stars.

The 110 rooms and suites feature a warm, Mediterranean-inspired design from Gilles & Boissier, with natural textures, soft tones, and select suites offering private plunge pools.

The remote location makes it ideal for travelers who want a private beach, time outdoors, and the feeling of having their own corner of Mallorca.

This is a wonderful choice for honeymoons, milestone celebrations, family trips, or anyone who values space, privacy, and a beautiful setting over nightlife and sightseeing right outside the door.

Belmond La Residencia, Deià

Where Four Seasons Formentor feels expansive and secluded, Belmond La Residencia feels personal, artistic, and deeply connected to Mallorca’s culture.

Located in Deià, a picturesque village nestled in the Tramuntana Mountains, the hotel is made up of two historic manor houses, including Son Canals, which dates back to the 1700s. Over the years, Deià has attracted artists, writers, and creatives from around the world, and La Residencia continues to reflect that spirit.

The hotel’s character is found in the details: its impressive art collection, sculpture gardens, locally inspired design, and the sense that guests are staying somewhere with a true story behind it.

With just 67 individually decorated rooms, La Residencia feels more like a private estate than a traditional resort. Days here move at a slower pace. Guests can wander through the village, enjoy the views of the mountains, dine at El Olivo inside a 500-year-old olive press, or spend the afternoon at Cala Deià with the hotel’s beach shuttle service.

This is the perfect match for travelers who want to experience the soul of Mallorca. It is especially appealing for art lovers, honeymooners looking for romance and atmosphere, and repeat visitors who want to discover a different side of the island beyond the beaches.

Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca

The newest addition to Mallorca’s luxury hotel scene, Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra opened in June 2026 as the brand’s first property in the Balearic Islands.

Located on the Costa d’en Blanes near Puerto Portals marina, the resort offers a different style of Mallorca experience. It combines the privacy of a coastal retreat with easy access to Palma and the island’s dining and social scene.

The resort features 131 rooms and suites, including rooftop suites with private pools and standalone villas. Set across seven acres of cliffside gardens, the property also offers access to two private coves.

Dining is one of the biggest highlights. With six restaurants and bars, guests have plenty of options, including Matsuhisa by Nobu Matsuhisa, which brings his signature Nikkei cuisine to Mallorca, and Leña by Michelin-starred chef Dani García, along with Mediterranean, Mexican, and tapas concepts.

Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra is ideal for travelers who want the best of both worlds: a private coastal setting with the convenience of being close to the marina, Palma, and a livelier evening scene.

It is a natural fit for food-focused travelers, milestone celebrations, and anyone excited to experience one of Mallorca’s newest luxury openings.

Exploring The Dunlin and Charleston’s Best Hotels

Our travel advisor Marika just got back from a visit to The Dunlin, a stunning new resort tucked away along the picturesque Kiawah River, just outside Charleston, South Carolina. She got to experience the Lowcountry charm, explore exciting outdoor activities, and bring back the best insider tips. Along the way, she also spent some time in downtown Charleston at two of the city’s top luxury hotels: The Bennett and The Dewberry.

The Dunlin

The Dunlin, part of Auberge Resorts, is all about blending that easy Lowcountry charm with just the right amount of luxury. Nestled along the Kiawah River, it’s a place where you can truly unplug—kicking back by the pool with a drink or exploring marshlands on a boating trip. The resort offers a mix of beautifully designed rooms and private cottages and is a great option for romantic getaways, family vacations, or solo travelers looking for a peaceful escape.

One of Marika’s favorite parts of the trip was the farm experience at the resort’s Goatery. Imagine meeting playful goats, gathering your own eggs from the chicken coop and posing for photos with the pigs - who knew farming could be so fun? For food lovers, the dining options at The Dunlin don’t disappoint. They offer casual bites by the pool at The Cove and Southern-inspired dishes at Linnette’s.

When you’re not eating or lounging, there’s plenty to explore. A saltmarsh boating adventure gives you a glimpse of the area’s natural beauty, while a few hours by the pool in a private cabana is just what you need to recharge. The best part? Everything here feels easygoing yet luxurious—no stuffy vibes, just pure relaxation.

Charleston

After her time at The Dunlin, Marika headed to downtown Charleston for a change of pace, checking out two of the city’s best hotels: The Bennett and The Dewberry. Both hotels offer a unique experience, so no matter your vibe, there’s something for everyone.

The Bennett

For those who appreciate classic elegance and modern comfort, The Bennett Hotel is a perfect choice. Located on King Street, right in the heart of Charleston’s best shopping, dining, and cultural attractions, The Bennett makes it easy to explore the city. With 179 rooms and suites, the hotel feels luxurious without being over the top—think cozy bedding, sophisticated touches, and large windows offering stunning views of the city streets.

No stay at The Bennett is complete without a visit to its rooftop bar, Camellias, where you can sip champagne while taking in panoramic views of the Charleston skyline. Dining at Gabrielle, The Bennett’s signature restaurant, is another highlight. Serving Southern cuisine with a creative twist, the restaurant showcases local ingredients and seasonal dishes, making it a culinary experience not to be missed.

Staying at The Bennett puts you just steps away from Charleston’s top boutiques and art galleries. You’re also a short walk from the historic waterfront, making it easy to explore Charleston’s historic district and enjoy everything the city has to offer.

The Dewberry

For those looking for something a little more boutique-y, The Dewberry is a dream. This hotel sits in a renovated federal building, giving it a cool mix of mid-century style with a nod to Charleston’s historic roots. With only 155 rooms and suites, it feels intimate and special—like you’re staying somewhere with a story to tell.

The Dewberry’s Living Room is a cozy, beautifully designed lounge where you can unwind with a craft cocktail after a day of sightseeing. The space has become a favorite spot for both guests and locals, offering a relaxed yet stylish atmosphere for socializing or simply unwinding with a good drink. Don’t miss watching the sunset at their rooftop bar, Citrus Club, for some of the best views of the water and the city.

And with its location near Marion Square in the heart of downtown Charleston, The Dewberry offers easy access to farmers markets, museums, and galleries, making it an excellent choice for travelers who want to experience Charleston’s creative side.

Both The Bennett and The Dewberry offer their own unique take on Charleston’s hospitality. The Bennett is grand and elegant, while The Dewberry is artistic and intimate. You really can’t go wrong with either one!

Marika’s time at The Dunlin and Charleston gave her the best of both worlds: relaxing by the river and soaking up the charm of the Lowcountry, followed by a couple of nights in a lively, historic city. It’s the perfect combo if you want a little bit of everything—nature, culture, luxury, and relaxation.

If this sounds like your kind of trip, we’re here to help you plan every step of the way. From kayaking through the marshes to sipping champagne on a rooftop bar, we’ll make sure every detail is just right!

Our Favorite Luxury Hotels from 2023

2023 was all about exploring new hotels and finding those dreamy destinations. Here at KJ Travel, we've had the pleasure of experiencing some of these remarkable properties firsthand, and we're excited to share our top picks from France to Mexico, and beyond.

FRANCE

Carlton Cannes

Following a two-year renovation, the Carlon Cannes transformed into a new modern design that still maintains the original Belle époque beauty of its predecessor, the InterContinental Carlton. The $500 million investment includes 37 new residences, a pool, a bar, and terraces for the first-floor rooms. Located on the prestigious Boulevard de la Croisette, Carlton Cannes also boasts a private beach and a terrace with expansive sea views. Kate has fond memories of a stay here years ago, watching the Bastille Day fireworks show over the sea. She loved getting to revisit and see the renovated property in 2023!

La Fantaisie

Located on Rue Cadet, La Fantaisie offers the perfect mix of whimsical charm and comfort with 73 rooms, including 10 suites. Plus, if you're into seafood, their restaurant serves up delicious pescatarian dishes. With options for connecting and adjoining rooms, it's great for families and groups. The big windows let in tons of natural light and we recommend the 5th floor, where Juliet balconies offer a charming glimpse of Parisian life. Don’t miss their rooftop, open from 5 PM to 12 AM!

ITALY

Furore Grand Hotel

With stunning views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Furore Grand Hotel opened for business in June 2023 and is located between Positano and Amalfi. Each of its 37 rooms faces the sea and offers either private balconies or terraces for magnificent views. The Amalfi Coast was one of the most popular destinations for KJT travelers in 2023, so we are delighted to see a new luxury property on the scene!

Six Sense Rome

Six Senses made its Italian debut earlier last year, introducing an urban sanctuary with 95 rooms and suites located on the Via del Corso pedestrian shopping promenade, just blocks from the ancient Pantheon and Fontana di Trevi. Guests can enjoy the spa hotel, restaurants, an outdoor courtyard garden, and a rooftop terrace with panoramic views of Rome. The opening of this hotel is incredibly exciting because it’s the first Six Senses in Italy!

Hotel La Palma

If you're looking for the newest luxury hotel in Capri, La Palma has been transformed into a 5-star elegant Oetker Collection hotel. It’s right in the heart of Capri, just steps away from the Piazzetta. Hotel La Palma has 50 rooms and suites, a rooftop restaurant and bar, an exclusive beach club, and a new pool deck. After a long-awaited reopening, travelers began checking in last summer! The only thing you'll have to worry about is choosing your outfit, but don't worry – we've got you covered with our essentials from our Amazon storefront.

TURKEY & GREECE

THE PENINSULA ISTANBUL

The Peninsula Istanbul is a gorgeous waterfront hotel that opened in early 2023, right on the Bosphorus River. It is the centerpiece of the new Galataport district along with new museums, art galleries, restaurants, and boutiques. There are 177 rooms, many of which have unobstructed river views, several swimming pools, and a luxurious spa.

One&Only, Aesthesis

The newest addition to the Athenian Riviera, One&Only Aesthesis, is a short boat ride away from Kea Island and about 30 minutes from the center of Athens. This is the perfect option for guests looking for a blend of relaxing beach vibes and the excitement of the city. They welcomed their first guests at the beginning of November of 2023. We've had the pleasure of staying at one of the most luxurious hotels in Greece.

MEXICO

Belmond Maroma

Reopened the main part of the hotel in Aug 2023 in the Riviera Maya, with the Guerlain spa and multi-bedroom suites opening later in the year. Our own Kate Johnson got a tour just weeks after the opening and loved the intimate size of the property, thoughtful Mexican artisan interior decor, prime location along Maroma Beach, and turtle release program. This renovation has benefited from Belmond’s acquisition by LVMH so no expense was spared in making this the luxury Mexico resort worthy of Belmond. We are a Belmond Bellini preferred partner which means when you book with KJT, our clients get the top priority for upgrades and VIP treatment plus daily breakfast, resort credits, and more!

St. Regis Kanai

Located in Riviera Maya, offering a stunning setting along the coastline, St. Regis Kanai is a blend of luxury and natural beauty. With its recent opening, the resort has a total of 143 rooms including suites providing guests with many options for accommodations, great beach access, and family programming, making it one of the best family-friendly resorts in Mexico. Right next to St. Regis Kanai is its sister hotel, The Riviera Maya Edition at Kanai, which also had a recent debut. Offering 143 rooms, tasty dining options, and prime beach access, these chic newcomers are perfect for travelers seeking a getaway.
