Munich | Rosewood Munich + Oktoberfest

You land, drop your bags, and within hours you’re in full Oktoberfest mode. Wearing a Lederhosen or Dirndl is optional but highly encouraged (it's not only fun, but it immerses you into the whole Oktoberfest vibe). Kate’s practical take: you could opt to buy a costume made outfit or rent one for the occasion, the fairgrounds are open to all, but beer-hall access hinges on reserved tables. Those typically go first to prior-year holders when dates are released (around April), so we lean on trusted hosts (and partners) to secure tables and escort you to one of the two daily seatings. Steins of stronger festbier and family-style food are included; the atmosphere really lifts from 6–11 p.m. You can step out for rides and return to your table, and door-to-door transfers are smart—streets close and Rosewood Munich is a 25-plus-minute walk away. The event felt well managed, with daytime sessions and on-site medical support (yes, “drunk carts” are a thing).

On Kate’s night at Oktoberfest, her group had reserved places at the Wildstuben tent with private transfers (the effortless way to do it). The next day brought a Munich highlights tour, a site inspection at Rosewood Munich, and a classic evening, Brasserie Cuvilliés for dinner followed by drinks at Bar Montez.

Kate loved that Rosewood was just a five-minute walk from Marienplatz, surrounded by a lively locals’ bar scene. Visiting during Christmas market season is another wonderful way to experience the city. Fuschl | Rosewood Schloss Fuschl

A rainy forecast shifted the Salzburg walking tour slightly (Kate's packing recommendation for fall in Austria: Layers! They are your best friend), but it still hit the icons (Hohensalzburg Fortress included) before a check-in at Rosewood Schloss Fuschl.

Kate’s recommendation: base in Fuschl (about 25 minutes from Salzburg) for a stronger sense of place and those lakefront one- to three-bedroom chalets. Plan three nights with a full day at leisure  to enjoy the property (in summer, that means real time on the water). There’s an easy 1.5-mile stroll into charming Fuschl village and family-friendly programming that keeps kids happy by the lake while you unwind.

This day looked like this for Kate: transfer to St. Gilgen, boat across Lake Wolfgang to St. Wolfgang, then funicular up Schafberg for panoramic views and lunch at the summit, followed by pre-dinner drinks at Schloss Bar and dinner at Schloss Restaurant back at the hotel.

Kate's advice: Schloss Fuschl is ideal for couples who want privacy (book a chalet) and for families who value space and easy, outdoors-forward days. We’ll time your lake activities, spa, and dining so it all feels effortless.

Vienna | Rosewood Vienna

The transition day doubles as sightseeing: stop in Melk for a cultural leg-stretch, then on to wine tasting at Fuhrgassl-Huber and a traditional Heuriger dinner, arriving to check-in at Rosewood Vienna.

In the city, Kate loved the prime First-District location amid luxury shopping, the standout rooftop bar and restaurant, and spa suites with steam and saunas (note: no pool). The building’s secret (one of Mozart’s former residences) adds a quiet thrill; and an anticipated White Lotus shoot ultimately didn’t happen, which somehow keeps it feeling like a well-kept secret. The team’s day included a Vienna highlights walking tour and dinner at Rosewood Vienna, an easy way to settle into the city.

Where we stayed: Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon
Set high on one of the city's seven hills, the Four Seasons is an urban resort with oversized rooms (most with balconies), a spa and indoor lap pool, and a new outdoor pool and garden terrace that feel like a private club in the middle of the city. From the rooftop, Eduardo VII Park spreads below like a green carpet, with São Jorge Castle perched on the opposite hill, a view that shifts as evening falls. Kate was able to stop by and check the newly renovated rooms as well.

Kate's stay Three nights in Lisbon gave time to settle into the city's rhythm and explore, Kate recommends stopping by one of José Alvarez restaurants, definitely a favorite.

Perched above the Atlantic in Porches, VILA VITA Parc is a lush, 54-acre cliffside oasis with 12 restaurants (including two-Michelin-star Ocean), a Sisley spa, family-friendly spaces, and direct beach access. It’s classic Algarve, golden sand coves, grottoes and caves, and warm hospitality.

Kate's stay
Three easy, summer-slow days (beach, spa, pool, kids’ club) plus dinners at Whale and Arte Náutica. The highlight: a private catamaran along the Lagos coastline, gliding past the famous golden cliffs and sea grottoes. Kate's family also explored the caves around Carvoeiro.

It’s the grand dame with a playful soul, afternoon tea, sunset cocktails, and front-row views of the Atlantic.

Kate’s stay
Three nights was the sweet spot for a first look at the island. Her family loved the 1891 Bar for sunset petiscos (small savory dish, very similar to spanish tapas) and a proper Porto Tónico, a fun local twist on the classic spritz.

Iceland in Summer: A Luxury Family Adventure

There’s a reason Iceland feels like another planet, steaming earth, crashing waterfalls, and glowing blue glaciers. It’s raw, cinematic, and, yes, surprisingly luxurious. She recently returned from a six-night, summer adventure through Iceland with her family. The trip was the perfect blend of adrenaline, natural wonder, and five-star relaxation. Every detail was expertly planned.

This is what a real luxury Iceland itinerary looks like, built for families but also made for travelers who want it all.

Reykjavik: Coastal Thrills & Spa-Level Serenity

The trip began at The Reykjavik EDITION (which Melissa's family LOVED), Iceland’s first five-star city hotel. Sleek and modern, it’s just steps from the Harpa Concert Hall and perfectly placed to explore the capital.

Instead of diving into sightseeing right away, Melissa’s family began with a rejuvenating visit to The Retreat Spa at the Blue Lagoon. Floating through mineral-rich waters surrounded by volcanic rock set the tone for the trip ahead.

That evening, a private RIB boat tour offered high-speed views of the Reykjavik coast, where dolphins, puffins, and the glassy Atlantic brought the first dose of Icelandic beauty and adventure.

Day two took the family west with a private tour to Glymur Waterfall, one of Iceland’s tallest and most breathtaking waterfalls. Afterward, they soaked in Hvammsvík Hot Springs, a collection of natural geothermal pools that ebb and flow with the tide, an experience that truly blurs the line between sea and spa.

Later that day, the family  geared up for a private jet ski ride through Reykjavik Bay, cruising past Viðey Island and hugging the dramatic coastline.

The Golden Circle: Classic Iceland with a Twist

The Golden Circle is a must-see, and Melissa’s family explored it with a private guide. Stops included:

• Þingvellir National Park (a UNESCO site),

• Gullfoss Falls, and

• The Geysers of Haukadalur Valley.

What made this classic route better? A lunch stop at Friðheimar, a working tomato greenhouse where guests dine amongst the vines and sip on fresh tomato soup straight from the source. The day closed with a peaceful horseback ride on iconic Icelandic horses.

South Coast: Buggy Rides, WaterfallS & MORE

Heading into Iceland’s south coast, the family checked into Skálakot Manor, a refined hotel set on a working Icelandic farm that quickly became a favorite for its blend of rustic charm and boutique luxury. Days were packed with adventure: chasing waterfalls like Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, navigating the remote canyons of Thakgil by buggy, and wrapping up with a private glacial river fishing tour, where their freshly caught Arctic char later appeared on their dinner plates. Further east, a stay near Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon offered a front-row seat to Iceland’s most surreal landscape. A private kayak tour took them paddling through floating icebergs, with a visit to nearby Diamond Beach, where glacier shards sparkled across black sand. Think You’ve Been to Every Luxury Mexico Beach Resort? Think Again.

Opened in late 2022 and set within a 3,000-acre private nature reserve, Four Seasons Tamarindo is intentionally remote. It’s about a 50-minute drive from Manzanillo Airport, but private air access to the resort’s on-property landing strip is available and seamless. Kate visited recently with her family and came back with great insights and even more amazing pictures.

A Remote, Refined Escape on Mexico’s Pacific Coast

The property is spread out; guests use golf carts to move between restaurants, pools, and suites. Accommodations are divided into cliffside and beachfront categories, depending on your preferred view and vibe. There are 157 rooms, including oversized private plunge pool suites (big enough to swim laps in!) and beachfront options just steps from the sand. Multi-bedroom villas four- and six-bedroom are perfect for families or groups.

What to Do at Four Seasons Tamarindo

Tamarindo offers more than just a pretty view, one of Kate's favorite moments, the stargazing. It's spectacular thanks to the resort’s secluded location. You’ve got access to 26 miles of nature trails, a David Fleming-designed 18-hole golf course with ocean views, and a full watersports program: kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, and exceptional deep-sea fishing, which is especially good in this part of Mexico.

The spa is a standout, with treatments inspired by local traditions and settings that open to the surrounding jungle. There’s also a temazcal for guests looking for a more immersive wellness experience.

Culinary Craft and Cultural Connection

One of Tamarindo’s most compelling features is its sense of place. Great experiences include cooking classes, a foraging tour, and visits to the on-site Rancho Ortega farm. The pastry chef trained at Rosetta in Mexico City, and that level of craft shows across the resort’s three dining venues.

Kate and her family especially loved Coyul, led by celebrated chef Elena Reygadas. Another favorite: Sal, the open-air seafood spot perched above Majahua Beach perfect for sunset dinners.
